RESISTANCE

CORROSION RESISTANCE

HEAT RESISTANCE
- Demonstrates robust resistance to oxidation in intermittent service in air at temperatures up to 1040°C, and 1150°C in continuous service.
- Shows good resistance to thermal fatigue and cyclic heating.
- Widely utilized in environments where sulfur dioxide gas is present at elevated temperatures.
- Continuous use in the 425-860°C range is not recommended if subsequent aqueous corrosion resistance is required due to carbide precipitation.
- Commonly employed at temperatures starting from about 800 or 900°C, beyond the effective range of 304H and 321.
FABRICATION
- Favored in heat treatment and process industries due to its high-temperature and corrosive environment capabilities.
- Often fabricated into complex structures with ease.
- Readily roller-forms, stamps, and draws.
- Due to 310 work-hardening, severe forming operations should be followed by annealing.
WELDABILITY
- Austenitic stainless steel is generally deemed weldable.
- Considered to have weldability similar to 304 and 304L.
- Special consideration is required to compensate for a higher coefficient of thermal expansion to prevent warping and distortion.
