Rigorous Specifications
AMS 4928 - Bars, Forgings, and Forging Stock (Annealed)
AMS 4965 - Bars, Forgings (Solution treated and aged)
AMS 4967 - Bars, Forgings (Annealed, Heat Treatable)
Advanced Heat Treatment Options
- For superior hardness, tensile strength, and fatigue resistance, our annealing process operates between 1,700-1,900°F (927-1,038°C).
DAXUN 6-4™ Grade 5 alloy offers versatile heat treatment options. - 1. Anneal: Achieve optimal properties by annealing at 1,275-1,400°F (691-760°C) for ½ to 2 hours, followed by air or furnace cooling.
- 2. Stress Relief Anneal: Reduce residual stresses by annealing at 1,000-1,200°F (538-649°C) for 1 to 8 hours, with air or furnace cooling.
- 3. Solution Heat Treat: Enhance properties with solution heat treatment at 1,675-1,750°F (913-954°C) for 1 hour, followed by water quenching.
- 4. Aging: Achieve desired mechanical properties by aging at 975-1,025°F (524-552°C) for 4 to 8 hours followed by air cooling.
Optimum properties are achieved with rapid quenching of small sections in the solution treated and aged condition. Larger sections or delayed quenching may yield suboptimal properties.
Hardness Levels
Typical hardness in the annealed condition ranges from Rockwell C 30-34, whereas the solution and aged condition reach Rockwell C 35-39.
Forgeability and Formability Insights
- Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy bar undergoes forging at an impressive 1,750°F (954°C) with a final forging temperature maintained at 1,450°F (788°C). A recommended minimum reduction of 35% ensures the attainment of optimal material properties.
- Due to its structure, Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy bar presents challenges when forming at room temperature, even in an annealed state. To counteract this, severe forming operations such as bending or stretching can be expertly managed on annealed material at elevated temperatures up to 1,200°F (649°C) without compromising mechanical integrity. For precision hot sizing or forming, employ creep forming within the temperature range of 1,000 - 1,200°F (538 - 649°C).
Machinability
Experience superior machinability with Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy bar by employing austenitic stainless steel machining techniques. Utilize slow machining speeds, high feed rates, rigid tooling, and generous amounts of non-chlorinated cutting fluids to achieve excellent results.
Weldability
The Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy rod boasts exceptional weldability in both annealed and solution-treated, partially aged conditions, with aging achieved through post-weld heat treatment. Stringent precautions are necessary to avoid contamination from oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen. Fusion welding should be carried out within an inert gas-filled chamber or with inert gas shielding the molten metal and adjacent heated zones. Additionally, spot, seam, and flash welding can be performed without a protective atmosphere.
Special Considerations
Be aware that Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 titanium alloy rod might face contamination by hydrogen during improper pickling and by oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon during forging, heat treating, and brazing. Such contamination can lead to ductility loss, adversely impacting notch sensitivity and forming characteristics.

Grade 2 Titanium Rod - Supreme Quality
Exceptional Corrosion Resistance
Avoid using titanium with strong reducing acids, fluoride solutions, pure oxygen, or anhydrous ***.
Outstanding General Corrosion Resistance
Grade 2 titanium's general corrosion rates in various media are detailed in Table 1. CP titanium is highly resistant to a broad range of environments, including:
- Seawater and Brines
- Inorganic Salts
- Moist *** Gas
- Alkaline Solutions
- Oxidizing Acids
- Organics and Organic Acids
- Sulfur Compounds
Superior Crevice Corrosion Resistance
CP titanium offers excellent resistance to crevice corrosion in salt solutions compared to stainless steels. It does not exhibit crevice corrosion at temperatures below 80°C (176°F), irrespective of pH, even in super-chlorinated conditions.
Remarkable Stress Corrosion Cracking Resistance
Experience the unparalleled performance of Grade 2 Titanium! This exceptional material showcases remarkable resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in hot chloride solutions and remains immune to such corrosion in seawater environments.
Erosion Corrosion Mastery
Titanium stands out with its excellent resistance against erosion even in dynamic environments.
In seawater velocities reaching up to 130 ft/sec (40 m/sec), Grade 2 Titanium exhibits negligible material degradation. Even with abrasive particles like sand, its corrosion resistance is only minimally affected.
Hydrogen Embrittlement Resistance
Grade 2 Titanium shows no significant hydrogen absorption from seawater exposure, even at elevated temperatures. Hydrogen absorption only becomes a concern under the following strict conditions:
- A pH level below 3 or above 12
- Temperature exceeding 176°F (80°C)
- Presence of a hydrogen generation mechanism, such as a galvanic couple or impressed current.
Bio-Corrosion Immunity
Titanium alloys exhibit outstanding immunity to microbiologically influenced corrosion, ensuring durability. Although biofouling can occur due to non-toxicity toward marine organisms, this can be mitigated through chlorination or increased water velocity in heat exchangers.
Corrosion Fatigue Excellence
Titanium's fatigue performance remains uncompromised in seawater. Fatigue endurance limits and *** growth rates are consistent whether tested in air or seawater.
Galvanic Corrosion Resistance
As a noble metal in the galvanic series, titanium generally acts as a cathode when paired with other metals. This means titanium itself is not harmed by galvanic corrosion, though it may accelerate the corrosion of the other metal. Pairing with more noble metals, like graphite, further enhances titanium's passivity.
Unmatched Fatigue Properties
Grade 2 Titanium Rod maintains its superior fatigue properties in seawater without degradation. Fatigue endurance limits and *** growth rates remain unchanged whether tested in air or seawater.
Superb Weldability
CP2 Grade Titanium Rod boasts excellent weldability with proper precautions. Due to titanium's reactivity, an inert gas shield is required on both the exterior and interior surfaces of the rod. Ensure the material is free from grease or oil contamination for optimal results.
Typically, Grade 2 Titanium Rod is welded using manual or automatic TIG welding, with or without filler wire. Using low heat input helps to minimize the heat-affected zone. Post-weld heat treatment is generally unnecessary for Titanium Rod.
