Ti 6Al-4V (Grade 5 Titanium) is the most extensively used titanium alloy tube, representing over 50% of total titanium usage. Typically employed in the annealed state, it can operate at temperatures up to 400°C (750°F). Ti 6Al/4V is welded with matching or ELI filler wire, offering significantly higher strength than commercially pure titanium tubes, with enhanced stiffness and thermal properties (excluding thermal conductivity). The thermal conductivity of Grade 5 titanium tube is about 60% lower than CP titanium. Among its many advantages, it can be heat-treated to achieve superior strength and performance. Using Grade 5 titanium seamless tubes provides strong formability, low density, and excellent corrosion resistance.
This exceptional grade strikes a harmonious balance of strength, corrosion resistance, weldability, and machinability, making it indispensable across numerous industries. Widely adopted in military aircraft, the aviation sector, rocket components, precision-guided elements, armor equipment, naval machinery, and military vacuum apparatus, it stands as a testament to superior engineering. The closely related variant, 6-4ELI, extends its utility to surgical implants, showcasing its versatility. Ideally suited for applications up to 400°C, it enhances ductility and toughness, particularly under cold working conditions, thanks to its remarkable specific strength. Typically supplied in the annealed state, it can be conveniently heat-treated to bolster its strength for diverse applications. As a general-purpose titan, the Ti 6Al-4V seamless tube boasts a spectrum of desirable properties across a temperature range of -210°C to 400°C. Grade 5 titanium alloy tubes are the epitome of commercialization among titanium alloys, combining unparalleled strength with toughness. These tubes also exhibit commendable welding and processing characteristics, solidifying their top-tier status.

- Titanium Alloy - (UNS R56400)
INTRODUCTION
- The DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 Alloy Tube (UNS R56400) stands as the most sought-after titanium alloy in the industry. This duplex alpha+beta titanium alloy incorporates aluminium as an alpha stabilizer and vanadium as a beta stabilizer. Its high-strength properties make it suitable for use at cryogenic temperatures, reaching up to 800°F (427°C). The ATI Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy is utilized in processes like annealing, solution treatment, and ageing. It has a wide range of critical applications including compressor blades, discs, and rings for jet engines, fuselage and space capsule components, pressure containers, *** cases, helicopter rotor hubs, fasteners, and other high-strength-to-weight ratio forgings.
- The alloy undergoes initial melting via vacuum arc (VAR), electron beam (EB), or plasma arc hearth melting (PAM). Subsequent remelting is accomplished through one or two additional vacuum arc steps.
SPECIFICATIONS
• ASTM B338 - Standard heat treatable titanium tubes

- Exceptional properties are achieved in the solution-treated and aged condition, particularly in smaller cross-sections that are rapidly quenched.
Larger section sizes or quench delays may result in properties that are not optimal.
HARDNESS
Typical hardness in the annealed condition ranges from Rockwell C 30-34, while in the solution treated and aged condition, it ranges from Rockwell C 35-39.
FORGEABILITY/ FORMABILITY
- DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy tubes are forged at 1,750°F (954°C), with an end forging temperature of 1,450°F (788°C). For optimal results, a reduction of at least 35% is recommended.
- DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy is renowned for its strength and durability, though it remains challenging to form at room temperature, even after annealing. This resilient alloy endures harsh forming operations like bending or stretching on annealed material at elevated temperatures up to 1,200°F (649°C) without compromising its mechanical properties. For precision hot sizing or forming, creep forming is employed at temperatures between 1,000 to 1,200°F (538 to 649°C), ensuring exceptional results.
MACHINABILITY
- DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy showcases excellent machinability, akin to austenitic stainless steels. It requires slow speeds, heavy feeds, and robust
tooling, accompanied by substantial amounts of non-chlorinated cutting fluid to achieve optimal machining performance.
WELDABILITY
- DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Grade 5 Alloy Titanium Tube demonstrates superb weldability, whether annealed or in a solution and partially aged condition. Post-weld heat treatment includes aging, with special
- precautions necessary to prevent contamination by oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen. Fusion welding is best performed in an inert gas-filled chamber or with an inert gas tail shield to protect the molten metal and adjacent hot zones. Spot welding, seam welding, and flash welding can be conducted without a protective environment.
SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS
- DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy requires meticulous handling to avoid contamination by hydrogen through improper pickling, and by oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon during processes such as forging, heat treatment, and brazing. Such contamination can diminish ductility, affecting notch sensitivity and forming properties.
Ti-6Al-4V Titanium Pipe - Grade 5 Titanium Tube
Titanium Alloy - (UNS R56400)
Introduction
DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Titanium Tube, Grade 5 (UNS R56400) stands as the most sought-after titanium alloy, recognized for its superior performance. It is a duplex alpha+beta titanium alloy where aluminum acts as the alpha stabilizer and vanadium as the beta stabilizer. This high-strength alloy functions efficiently at temperatures as low as 800°F (427°C). The ATI Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy is ideal for applications requiring annealing, solution treating, and aging. Its versatility makes it suitable for compressor blades, disks, and rings in jet engines; fuselage and space capsule components; pressure vessels; *** cases; helicopter rotor hubs; fasteners; and critical forgings with an impressive strength-to-weight ratio.
The manufacturing process begins with vacuum arc (VAR), electron beam (EB), or plasma arc hearth melting (PAM) for initial melting. This is followed by one or two vacuum arc remelting steps to ensure superior quality and consistency.
