CORROSION RESISTANCE:
- Experience unparalleled corrosion resistance, outmatching any standard hardenable stainless steels.

WELDABILITY:
- Easily welded using most common fusion and resistance techniques.
- Not compatible with oxyacetylene welding methods.
- Generally eliminates the need for pre-heating.
- Inter-pass temperature should not exceed 248°F for optimal results.
- Enhanced toughness achieved in welds post complete heat treatment.
ELEVATED TEMPERATURE USE:
- Provides excellent oxidation resistance up to approximately 1100°F.
- Prolonged exposure to elevated temperatures may reduce toughness in precipitation hardened states.
PROCESSING - HOT FORMING:
- For forging, uniformly heat to 2150 / 2200°F, maintaining for a half hour per inch of thickness.
- Optimal hot forming temperature range is 650-900°F, while the material remains austenitic.
- For prime hardening conditions, re-heat treat forgings at 1875-1925°F.
- Cool forgings below 90°F to ensure grain refinement and superior quality.
PROCESSING - COLD FORMING:
- Alloy 17-4 is best suited for mild operations due to its hardness in the annealed state.
- For intensive cold working, heat treat to condition H1150 to mitigate cracking risks.
- Bend radius exceeding 7T is often necessary.
- Post cold forming, re-age at the precipitation-hardening temperature to enhance stress corrosion resistance.
MACHINABILITY:
- Easily machinable in both solution-treated and precipitation-hardening conditions.
