430 (1.4016) Stainless Steel Sheet is a high-chromium ferritic stainless steel. With chromium content ranging from 12 to 18%, it offers superb ductility and formability. This steel withstands corrosion from strong acids and has excellent oxidation resistance due to its high chromium content. Polishing or grinding maximizes its corrosion resistance. Post-annealing removes brittleness at room temperature. For specialized sizes, please visit specific product pages. Contact us today for a custom quote on 430 Stainless Steel Sheet orders.
Description of the stainless steel plate's surface
Finish Designation | Method and degree of finish |
No.1 | After hot rolling, heat treatment, pickling or other equivalent treatment is applied. |
No.2D | Annealing and pickling are performed after cold rolling; material is soft with surface of silver-white luster; used for general applications and deep drawing. |
No.2B | After 2D finish, skin pass rolling is performed to obtain a more suitable luster; the surface becomes very exquisite; used for general applications. |
No.3 | Intermediate 100-120 grit finish; used for applications in which surface polishing is performed after shaping. |
No.4 | General 150-180 grit finish; used for restaurants and kitchen equipment and tools. |
#240 | 240 grit finish; used when a finer finish than No. 4 is required; typically for restaurants and kitchen equipment and tools. |
#320 | 320 grit finish polished product. |
HL | This finish is performed by continuous linear polishing using an abrasive of appropriate grain size; mainly used for architectural applications. |
BA | Achieved by performing bright annealing after cold rolling and then skin pass rolling to obtain even greater reflectance; provides excellent corrosion resistance; used for household appliances, kitchen equipment, and automobiles. |
8K | Through multiple grinding, it achieves very high brightness and smoothness, like a mirror. |

Leading Stainless Steel Sheet Suppliers in China
General properties:
- Ferritic, pure chromium, non-hardenable grade 430 offers excellent formability and corrosion resistance along with practical mechanical qualities. Its ability to withstand *** corrosion makes it useful in some chemical applications; however, its primary uses are in appliance parts and automotive trim.
- For use in automatic screw machines, grade 430F is a more machinable variation of this grade that is offered in bar form. Grade 434, which contains molybdenum, shares the same beneficial characteristics as Grade 430, with enhanced corrosion resistance thanks to the added molybdenum.
- ASTM A240/A240M meticulously outlines the premium 430 qualities for flat rolled products, including plates, sheets, and coils. These specifications ensure a high standard of quality. For bars and forgings, while there are similar standards, they may vary slightly. Specifically, ASTM A582 defines the Grade 430F characteristics for bars.
APPLICATIONS:
Typical applications for the versatile 430 grade include:
- Durable linings for dishwashers that withstand daily use.
- Sturdy refrigerator cabinet panels designed for lasting performance.
- Sleek and durable automotive trim.
- Reliable lashing wire for secure fastening.
- Element supports built for durability.
- Stove trim rings that combine functionality with aesthetic appeal.
- High-strength fasteners for various applications.
- Resilient chimney liners for enhanced safety.
Typical applications for the specialized 430F grade include:
- Precision repetition machined components for high-efficiency operations.
SPECIFICATIONS:
- UNS: ASTM/ASTE S43000
- DIN: 1.4016
CORROSION RESISTANCE:
- 430 grade material offers excellent resistance to a broad spectrum of corrosive environments, including nitric and some organic acids. Maximum corrosion resistance is achieved when the surface is highly polished or finely ground. Comparable to grade 304, its pitting and crevice corrosion resistance is substantial. Additionally, like all ferritic grades, 430 stands out for its exceptional resistance to stress corrosion cracking.
- The non-free machining 430F grade, similar to other high sulfur free machining grades, exhibits notably reduced resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion.
HEAT RESISTANCE:
- Grade 430 can resist oxidation up to 870°C in intermittent service and 815°C in continuous service. Extended heating within the 400-600°C range may cause brittleness at room temperature; however, this can be mitigated through annealing.
HEAT TREATMENT:
- Solution Annealing - Heat to 815-845°C, maintaining the temperature for ½ hour per 25mm of thickness, followed by slow furnace cooling to 600°C and rapid air cooling. Slow cooling between 540-400°C can lead to embrittlement.
- Sub-Critical Anneal - Heat to 760-815°C, then air cool or water quench.
- Note that this grade is not hardenable through thermal treatment.
WELDING:
- Pre-heat between 150-200°C is recommended if welding is necessary.
- Post-weld annealing at 790-815°C can relieve embrittlement in the weld metal and heat-affected zone.
- Grain refinement will not occur.
MACHINING:
- Machining is easier compared to standard austenitic grades like 304.
- However, there is still a tendency for galling and material pickup on the cutting tool.
- Bars that have been lightly drawn are easier to machine than those in the annealed condition.
- The 430F grade, a free machining version, offers significantly easier machining.
FABRICATION:
- A lower work hardening rate makes bending and forming easier compared to grade 304.
- However, lower ductility limits very severe operations.
- Severe bends should be made with the bend axis at right angles to the rolling direction.
- Severe cold heading of 430 wire is achievable.
430 Grade Stainless Steel Sheets are available in a variety of finishes to suit your needs.
Discover the elegance and versatility of our stainless steel sheets, often referred to as steel sheets. Available in an exquisite range of finishes, including the sophisticated brushed finish, the sleek 2B smooth finish, and the dazzling 8K mirror finish, our sheets are designed to meet your highest standards.
Each stainless steel sheet we provide features a protective film on the finished side, ensuring the surface remains pristine during fabrication or installation. This film can be effortlessly removed, revealing the flawless beauty underneath, while the back side remains unfinished, preserving the integrity of the material.
