CORROSION RESISTANCE:
316L Stainless Steel Rod
- 316L Stainless Steel Rod by Jiangsu Daxun Alloy Co., Ltd. stands out for its exemplary corrosion resistance. It is generally more resistant than 304 grade in various atmospheric environments and numerous corrosive media, thanks to its enhanced chromium and molybdenum content.

HEAT RESISTANCE:
- Exhibits excellent oxidation resistance in intermittent service up to 1600°F (870°C) and continuous service up to 1700°F (925°C).
- Grade 316L offers superior resistance to carbide precipitation.
WELDING CHARACTERISTICS:
- Boasting excellent weldability by all standard fusion methods, 316L can be welded both with and without filler metals seamlessly.
- For Grade 316, heavy welded sections require post-weld annealing for maximum corrosion resistance, a step not needed for Grade 316L.
HEAT TREATMENT:
- The annealing temperature range is between 1900 to 2100°F (1038 to 1149°C).
- 316/316L cannot be hardened by heat treatment.
- Special consideration is required to compensate for a higher coefficient of thermal expansion to prevent warping and distortion.
PROCESSING - HOT FORMING:
- Most producers recommend a maximum forging temperature of 2100°F to 2300°F.
- Do not forge below 1700°F (927°C) for optimal results.
- Corrosion resistance is maximized if the forgings undergo a final anneal.
PROCESSING - COLD FORMING:
- 316/316L Stainless Steel Rods are exceptionally tough and ductile, allowing them to be cold worked readily, such as roll form, swaging, cold heading, deep drawing,
bending, etc., with ease. - Severely cold-formed parts should be annealed to alleviate stresses.
MACHINABILITY:
- Type 316/316L Stainless Steel Rods are somewhat more challenging to machine than Type 304 due to their toughness.
- They exhibit chip characteristics that are tough and durable.
- Employing chip breakers and curlers is recommended.
- Utilize as large a tool as possible with ample amounts of cutting fluid.
- Consider heavy positive feeds at low speeds as 316/316L work hardens swiftly.
