GENERAL PROPERTIES

The 317L Stainless Steel Pipe is a premium molybdenum-infused, low-carbon austenitic stainless steel. Enhanced with additional chromium, nickel, and molybdenum, it offers exceptional corrosion resistance and superior chemical tolerance against sulfite, acetic, formic, citric, and tartaric acids. Its low carbon content prevents sensitization during welding and ensures high creep, rupture stress, and tensile strength at elevated temperatures. While nonmagnetic in its annealed condition, it may become slightly magnetic post-welding.

• For welding Type 317L steel, use AWS E317L/ER317L filler metal or austenitic, low carbon filler metals with higher molybdenum content than Type 317L, or a nickel-base filler metal with adequate chromium and molybdenum content to surpass the corrosion resistance of Type 317L.

MACHINABILITY

• Tougher than 304 stainless, with long stringy chips; the use of chip breakers is highly recommended.
