GENERAL PROPERTIES
Duplex 2205 Round Bar is an exceptional ferritic-austenitic stainless steel bar, featuring 22% chromium, 3% molybdenum, and 5-6% nickel. This widely-used duplex grade boasts a yield strength double that of regular austenitic grades. It excels in fatigue strength and offers outstanding resistance to stress corrosion cracking, crevice, pitting, erosion, and general corrosion, even in harsh environments.

CORROSION RESISTANCE
- With high chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen content, Duplex 2205 showcases superior resistance to corrosion compared to 316 and 316L in most environments.
- The alloy's composition also ensures robust resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, even in oxidizing and acidic solutions.
- Remarkably resistant to chloride stress corrosion cracking, it withstands temperatures up to approximately 302°F (150°C).
- The presence of ferrite enhances Duplex 2205's performance in caustic environments.
HEAT RESISTANCE
- Similar to other duplex stainless steels, Duplex 2205 exhibits excellent oxidation resistance at elevated temperatures.
- However, it is prone to embrittlement when exposed to temperatures above 572°F (300°C), even for short periods. Hence, it is not recommended for use above this temperature.
WELDING CHARACTERISTICS
- This alloy is known for its good weldability.
- Generally, welding without filler metal is not advised as it can lead to excessive ferrite formation.
HEAT TREATMENT
- The annealing temperature range is 1868 to 2012°F (1020 to 1100°C).
- Duplex 2205 cannot be hardened by heat treatment but does exhibit work-hardening properties.
- Special considerations are necessary to account for its higher coefficient of thermal expansion to prevent warping and distortion.
PROCESSING - HOT FORMING
Most manufacturers recommend a maximum hot forming temperature between 2010 and 2100°F (1100 to 1150°C). If the workpiece's shape is not compact, cooler edges could ***.
