The thermal conductivity of Grade 5 titanium is about 60% lower than CP titanium. Its heat treatability allows for optimized strength and performance. The seamless tubes' advantages include remarkable formability, low density, and excellent corrosion resistance, making them ideal for demanding applications.
This exceptional titanium alloy grade is the epitome of strength, corrosion resistance, weldability, and machinability, making it indispensable across various high-stakes industries. Its superior attributes render it a prime choice in military aircraft, aviation, rocket components, precision-guided systems, armor parts, naval equipment, and military vacuum apparatus, among others. A closely related variant, 6-4ELI, finds extensive use in surgical implants due to its enhanced properties. Designed for optimum performance in applications reaching up to 400°C, this alloy significantly improves ductility and toughness under cold working conditions. Notably, it boasts exceptional specific strength and is typically supplied in an annealed condition, allowing for easy heat treatment to augment its strength for diverse applications. As a versatile titanium alloy, Ti 6Al-4V titanium seamless tube excels at temperatures between -210°C and 400°C. Grade 5 titanium alloy tube stands as the most commercialized variant, celebrated for its robust strength, toughness, and excellent welding and processing capabilities.

INTRODUCTION
- DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 Alloy Tube (UNS R56400) stands as the most sought-after titanium alloy in the industry. This duplex alpha+beta titanium alloy masterfully combines aluminium as an alpha stabiliser and vanadium as a beta stabiliser. Renowned for its exceptional high-strength properties, this alloy remains robust even at cryogenic temperatures around 800°F (427°C). The ATI Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy finds extensive applications in annealing, solution treatment, and ageing processes. Its multifaceted uses span across compressor blades, discs, and rings for jet engines, fuselage and space capsule components, pressure containers, *** cases, helicopter rotor hubs, fasteners, and crucial forgings, all benefiting from a remarkable strength-to-weight ratio.
- The initial melting of the alloy employs methods such as vacuum arc (VAR), electron beam (EB), or plasma arc hearth melting (PAM). Subsequent remelting is carried out through one or two vacuum arc steps.
SPECIFICATIONS
• ASTM B338 - Standards for heat-treatable titanium tubes
• AMS 4928 - Specifications for forgings and forging stock (annealed)
• AMS 4965 - Guidelines for forgings (solution treated and aged)

- In the solution treated and aged condition, the alloy achieves its best properties, particularly in small cross-sections that are quickly quenched.
Larger section sizes or delays in quenching may result in properties that fall short of the optimal values.
HARDNESS
In the annealed condition, the typical hardness is Rockwell C 30-34, while in the solution and aged condition, it is approximately Rockwell C 35-39.
FORGEABILITY/ FORMABILITY
- DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy tubes are forged at 1,750°F (954°C), with an end forging temperature of 1,450°F (788°C). To achieve optimal results, a reduction of at least 35% is recommended.
- DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy, renowned for its exceptional strength and performance, poses challenges for forming at room temperature, even in its annealed state. However, it excels in high-temperature forming operations like bending or stretching, maintaining its mechanical properties up to 1,200°F (649°C). For precision hot sizing or forming, creep forming is utilized at temperatures between 1,000 and 1,200°F (538 to 649°C), ensuring unparalleled strength and reliability.
MACHINABILITY
- DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy can be expertly machined following protocols used for austenitic stainless steels. It requires slow speeds, heavy feeds, and robust
tooling, along with ample amounts of non-chlorinated cutting fluid to ensure precision and accuracy.
WELDABILITY
- DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Grade 5 Alloy Titanium Tube offers remarkable weldability. It can be effortlessly welded in either its annealed state or after solution treatment and partial aging.
- Post-weld heat treatment includes aging to enhance durability. It's crucial to prevent contamination by oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen. Fusion welding can be performed in an inert gas-filled environment or with inert gas shielding over the molten metal and surrounding hot zone. Techniques like spot welding, seam welding, and flash welding can be achieved without additional protective environments.
SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS
- DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy must be handled with care to prevent hydrogen contamination from incorrect pickling, and the absorption of oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon during processes like forging, heat treatment, and brazing. Such contamination may reduce ductility, affecting notch sensitivity and forming properties.
