Grade 2 Titanium Rod is the workhorse among titanium alloy rods, boasting an exceptional strength-to-density ratio ideal for weight-sensitive applications. As a CP (commercially pure) titanium alloy, it offers the perfect equilibrium of strength and weight. This rod provides an outstanding blend of strength and ductility, high impact strength, and seamless weldability. It exhibits remarkable resistance to corrosion in oxidizing conditions, alkaline media, brine solutions, weakly reducing environments, and wet ***. Additionally, it is highly resistant to seawater and saline solutions. The low density, high strength-to-weight ratio, and superior corrosion resistance make Grade 2 Titanium Rod an excellent choice for a myriad of applications.

AMS 4928 - Bars, Forgings, and Forging Stock (Annealed) - Industry Standard Specifications
AMS 4965 - Bars, Forgings (Solution Treated and Aged) - Ensuring Enhanced Durability
AMS 4967 - Bars, Forgings (Annealed, Heat Treatable) - Customizable for Various Needs
Rapid quenching of small sections in the solution treated and aged condition yields optimal properties. Larger sections or delayed quenching might result in suboptimal properties.
In the annealed condition, a typical hardness of Rockwell C 30-34 is achieved, whereas the solution and aged condition achieves approximately Rockwell C 35-39.
Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy bar showcases excellent machinability when employing methods used for austenitic stainless steel. It requires slow machining speeds, high feeds, rigid tools, and a substantial amount of non-chlorinated cutting fluids to achieve precision and quality.
The Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy rod is highly weldable in both the annealed condition and the solution and partially aged condition. Aging is achieved during the post-weld heat treatment process. To ensure optimal results, precautions against contamination from oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen are critical. Fusion welding should occur in an inert gas-filled chamber or with inert gas shielding the molten metal and adjacent heated zones. Spot, seam, and flash welding can be executed without protective atmospheres.
When working with Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 titanium alloy rod, it's crucial to avoid contamination with hydrogen from improper pickling, and oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon during processes like forging, heat treating, and brazing. Such contamination can lead to a reduction in ductility, negatively impacting notch sensitivity and forming characteristics.
We are committed to producing titanium bars tailored to your precise specifications.
Our bars boast an excellent surface finish, superior straightness, perfect roundness, and the tightest diameter tolerances, compliant with ISO 286-2 standards up to h5. Available in straightened, ground, and polished conditions.

Titanium should not be used with strong reducing acids, fluoride solutions, pure oxygen, or anhydrous ***.
The general corrosion rates for Grade 2 titanium in various media are detailed in Table 1. CP titanium demonstrates robust corrosion resistance across a wide range of environments, including:
CP titanium exhibits superior resistance to crevice corrosion in salt solutions compared to stainless steels, maintaining integrity at temperatures below 80°C (176°F), irrespective of pH, even under highly chlorinated conditions.
Grade 2 titanium offers excellent resistance to stress corrosion (SCC) cracking in hot chloride solutions and remains immune to SCC in seawater.
Titanium exhibits exceptional resistance to erosion in flowing environments.
Seawater with velocities up to 130 ft/sec (40 m/sec) shows negligible effect on the material. Even the presence of abrasive particles, such as sand, only has a minimal impact on corrosion.
There is no significant absorption of hydrogen into titanium exposed to seawater, even at elevated temperatures. Normally, hydrogen absorption occurs only under the following three conditions:
Titanium alloys exhibit a unique immunity to all forms of microbiologically influenced corrosion. Since they do not display any toxicity toward marine organisms, biofouling can occur in seawater. This can be minimized by chlorination or by increasing water velocity through the heat exchanger.
Unlike many materials, titanium does not show a decrease in fatigue performance in the presence of seawater. Both fatigue endurance limits and fatigue *** growth rates are the same whether tested in air or seawater.
In the galvanic series, titanium is positioned near the noble end, close to stainless steels, and will typically act as the cathode when coupled with other metals. Therefore, titanium will not be affected by galvanic corrosion but can accelerate corrosion of the other metal. Coupling titanium with more noble metals, such as graphite, further enhances titanium's passivity.
Grade 2 Titanium Rod, unlike many other materials, does not show degradation in fatigue properties in the presence of seawater. Fatigue endurance limits and fatigue *** growth rates remain consistent whether tested in air or seawater.
CP2 Grade Titanium Rod is highly weldable when the necessary precautions are taken. Due to the reactivity of titanium, an inert gas shield must protect both the OD and ID of the rod. The material must also be free from any grease or oil contamination.
Grade 2 Titanium Rod is typically welded using manual or automatic TIG welding, with or without filler wire. Low heat input should be used to minimize the heat-affected zone. Titanium Rod is not typically post-weld heat treated.
