FORGEABILITY/ FORMABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy tubes are expertly forged at 1,750°F (954°C) with an end forging temperature of 1,450°F (788°C). To achieve optimal results, a reduction of at least 35% is recommended, ensuring the highest quality and performance.
  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy, renowned for its formidable strength, presents challenges when forming at room temperature, even after annealing. This high-grade titanium requires severe forming operations such as bending or stretching to be performed on annealed material at temperatures soaring up to 1,200°F (649°C), ensuring the preservation of its mechanical integrity. Creep forming is a viable technique for hot sizing or forming within the temperature range of 1,000 to 1,200°F (538 to 649°C), maintaining the alloy's impeccable qualities.

MACHINABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy, with its exceptional robustness, can be machined following protocols used for austenitic stainless steels. This process necessitates slow speeds, heavy feeds, and steadfast
tooling, complemented by substantial amounts of non-chlorinated cutting fluid to ensure precision and efficiency.

WELDABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Grade 5 Alloy Titanium Tube, boasting superior weldability, can be effortlessly welded in both annealed and solution-treated, partially aged forms. Post-weld aging is conducted to enhance strength.
  • During welding, it is crucial to prevent contamination by oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen. Fusion welding achieves optimal results within an inert gas-filled chamber or using an inert gas tail shield to protect the molten metal and adjacent hot zone. Various welding techniques, including spot, seam, and flash welding, can be effectively executed without necessitating a protective environment.

SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy requires meticulous handling to avoid hydrogen contamination from incorrect pickling and the absorption of oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon during forging, heat treatment, brazing, and similar processes. Such contamination can significantly diminish ductility, thereby impacting notch sensitivity and forming properties, necessitating vigilant quality control.

Take precautions to avoid contamination from oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen. Perform fusion welding in an inert gas-filled chamber or use an inert gas tail shield during welding. Spot welding, seam welding, and flash welding can be done without a protective atmosphere.

Special Considerations

Beware of potential hydrogen contamination from improper pickling and absorption of oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon during processes like forging and heat treating. Such contamination can reduce ductility and impair notch sensitivity and formability.
