Type 201 stainless steel is a sophisticated austenitic chromium-nickel-manganese alloy designed for nickel conservation. As a cost-effective alternative to traditional Cr-Ni stainless steels like 301 and 304, Type 201 replaces nickel with manganese and nitrogen. While it cannot be hardened by heat treatment, it achieves remarkable tensile strength through cold working. Initially non-magnetic in the annealed state, it becomes magnetic after cold working. This mid-range stainless steel is widely used in appliances, cookware, sinks, kitchen utensils, catering equipment, automotive parts, fixtures, carriages, and window trims due to its structural strength.
