Grade 409 is a stabilized ferritic general-purpose stainless steel tube with 11% chromium content. Particularly tailored for environments where oxidation or corrosion resistance is paramount-far exceeding the capabilities of carbon steel and some coated steels. This 409 stainless steel tube boasts remarkable oxidation resistance and formability. However, its lower chromium concentration means it has reduced corrosion resistance compared to grades 304, 430, or 439, yet it still outperforms mild steel. Various forming techniques such as roll forming, stretch bending, deep drawing, and press forming are feasible with the 409. After annealing, 409 remains soft during cold treatment, making it ideal for warm and roll forming processes like press or stretch bending. Its weldability is adequate, yet it should be avoided in shock-loaded structures due to grain growth in the heat-affected zone, impacting mechanical quality. Widely used in automotive exhaust systems, 409 stainless steel tube is highly valued in both the automotive and agricultural sectors for its mechanical properties, which allow it to resist corrosion from exhaust gases and endure high-temperature environments.
