AMS 4928 - Bars, Forgings, and Forging Stock (Annealed)
AMS 4965 - Bars, Forgings (Solution treated and aged)
AMS 4967 - Bars, Forgings (Annealed, Heat Treatable)
In the solution treated and aged condition, rapid quenching of small sections yields optimal properties. However, larger sections or delayed quenching may result in suboptimal properties.
Typical hardness in the annealed condition ranges from Rockwell C 30-34, while in the solution-treated and aged condition, it ranges from Rockwell C 35-39.
The Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy bar can be machined using methods suitable for austenitic stainless steel. This involves slow machining speeds, high feeds, robust tools, and generous use of non-chlorinated cutting fluids.
The Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy rod is exceptionally weldable whether in the annealed state or the solution and partially aged condition, where aging occurs during post-weld heat treatment. It is crucial to take measures to prevent contamination from oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen. Fusion welding should be carried out in an inert gas-filled chamber or with inert gas to shield the molten metal and the adjacent heated zones, utilizing a tail shield. Additionally, spot, seam, and flash welding can be executed without the necessity of a protective atmosphere.
The Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 titanium alloy rod is susceptible to contamination with hydrogen due to improper pickling, and with oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon during processes such as forging, heat treating, and brazing. Such contamination can significantly reduce ductility, potentially affecting notch sensitivity and forming characteristics adversely.
We manufacture bars tailored to your specific requirements.
Our products boast excellent surface finish, exceptional straightness, and perfect roundness with the tightest diameter tolerances (up to h5 as per ISO 286-2). Available in straightened, ground, and polished conditions.

Avoid using titanium with strong reducing acids, fluoride solutions, pure oxygen, or anhydrous ***.
Table 1 displays the general corrosion rates for Grade 2 titanium across various media. CP titanium showcases excellent resistance to a broad spectrum of environments, including:
CP titanium offers remarkable resistance to crevice corrosion in salt solutions, outperforming stainless steels. It remains unaffected by crevice corrosion at temperatures below 80 °C (176°F), regardless of pH, even under highly chlorinated conditions.
Grade 2 titanium demonstrates superior resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in hot chloride solutions and is impervious to SCC in seawater.
Titanium exhibits outstanding resistance to erosion in flowing
seawater, maintaining integrity at velocities up to 130 ft/sec (40 m/sec). The presence of abrasive particles like sand has minimal impact on its corrosion resistance.
Titanium does not significantly absorb hydrogen in seawater, even at elevated temperatures. Hydrogen absorption typically occurs only under these conditions:
Titanium alloys exhibit an exceptional resistance to all forms of microbiologically influenced corrosion. These alloys are non-toxic to marine life, though they can experience biofouling in seawater. This phenomenon can be curtailed through chlorination or by increasing the water velocity within the heat exchanger.
Unlike many materials, titanium maintains its impeccable fatigue performance even in seawater environments. Fatigue endurance limits and fatigue *** growth rates remain consistent whether subjected to air or seawater conditions.
In the galvanic series, titanium is positioned near stainless steels at the noble end, generally acting as the cathode when paired with other metals. Consequently, titanium remains unaffected by galvanic corrosion but can accelerate the corrosion of the paired metal. When coupled with more noble metals, such as graphite, titanium's passivity is further enhanced.
Grade 2 Titanium Rod defies the typical degradation seen in other materials when exposed to seawater, maintaining robust fatigue properties. Fatigue endurance limits and fatigue *** growth rates are unaltered whether tested in air or seawater.
CP2 Grade Titanium Rod is highly weldable, provided that appropriate precautions are observed. Due to titanium's reactivity, it requires an inert gas shield on both the OD and ID of the rod, and the material must be free from any grease or oil contamination.
Grade 2 Titanium Rod is generally welded using manual or automatic TIG welding, with or without filler wire. To minimize the heat-affected zone, a low heat input should be utilized. Post-weld heat treatment is not typically applied to Titanium Rod.
