INTRODUCTION

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 Alloy Tube (UNS R56400) stands as the pinnacle of titanium alloys. This duplex alpha+beta titanium alloy is expertly crafted using aluminium as an alpha stabiliser and vanadium as a beta stabiliser. Distinguished for its high-strength attributes, this alloy excels even at cryogenic temperatures reaching up to 800°F (427°C). ATI Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 Alloy is exceptional for processes such as annealing, solution treatment, and aging. Its versatility spans from compressor blades, discs, and rings for jet engines to fuselage and space capsule components, pressure containers, *** cases, helicopter rotor hubs, fasteners, and critical forgings where a superior strength-to-weight ratio is paramount.
  • The alloy undergoes an initial melting process using advanced techniques like vacuum arc (VAR), electron beam (EB), or plasma arc hearth melting (PAM). This is followed by one or two stages of vacuum arc remelting, ensuring the highest purity and consistency.

HEAT TREATMENT

  • Annealing takes place at 1,700-1,900°F (927 - 1,038°C) to achieve optimal hardness, tensile, and fatigue strength.
  • DAXUN 6-4™, Grade 5 Alloy can be subjected to various heat treatment methods.
  • 1. Anneal: 1,275 -1,400°F; (691 - 760°C), for ½ to 2 hours, followed by air or furnace cooling.
  • 2. Stress Relief Anneal: 1,000 -1,200°F; (538 - 649°C), for 1 to 8 hours, followed by air or furnace cooling.
  • 3. Solution Heat Treatment: 1,675 -1,750°F; (913 - 954°C), for 1 hour, followed by a water quench.
  • 4. Aging Treatment: 975 -1,025°F; (524 - 552°C), for 4 to 8 hours, followed by air cooling.
  • In the solution treated and aged condition, the alloy offers unmatched properties, particularly in smaller cross-sections that are rapidly quenched.
    Larger section sizes or any delay in quenching may lead to properties that fall short of the optimum values.

HARDNESS

Typical hardness ranges from Rockwell C 30-34 in the annealed condition to Rockwell C 35-39 in the solution treated and aged condition.

FORGEABILITY/ FORMABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 Alloy Tubes are expertly forged at 1,750°F (954°C), with forging concluding at temperatures around 1,450°F (788°C). For best results, a reduction of at least 35% is recommended.
  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy, known for its high strength and durability, is challenging to form at room temperature, even when annealed. For demanding forming operations such as bending or stretching, annealed material can be processed at elevated temperatures up to 1,200°F (649°C) without compromising its mechanical properties. Creep forming is utilized for hot sizing or forming within a temperature range of 1,000 to 1,200°F (538 to 649°C).

ATI Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy, finds its applications in annealing, solution treating, and aging. It's indispensable for compressor blades, disks, and rings in jet engines; fuselage and spacecraft components; pressure vessels; *** cases; helicopter rotor hubs; fasteners; and critical high-strength-to-weight ratio forgings.
