Its design fulfills the demanding requirements for robust strength and unparalleled corrosion resistance, making it ideal for applications in chemical process equipment, the petrochemical industry, and marine environments. Notable for its formidable resistance to chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking, this steel's high chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen content ensures superior protection against pitting, crevice, and general corrosion.
How Is Duplex 2507 Stainless Steel Made?
- The production of Duplex 2507 stainless steel mirrors the methodologies used for other contemporary high-alloy steels. The process commences in an electric arc furnace where scrap steel is melted alongside the addition of specific alloys. The molten steel is then transferred to an AOD (argon oxygen decarburization) converter, where critical processes such as decarburization, sulfur refinement, and the elimination of dissolved gases are meticulously executed.
- During the AOD process, nitrogen is typically introduced to the steel. Post this stage, the steel progresses to the ladle furnace for precise inclusion adjustments.
- Subsequent to these initial procedures, the molten steel advances to the casting phase, where it is crafted into either solitary ingots or continuously produced blooms. These solid steel forms undergo further refinement through reheating, followed by forging or rolling to achieve the desired thickness. To ensure a uniform internal structure, the steel undergoes solution annealing, a heat treatment followed by rapid water quenching.
- Duplex 2507 pipe materials can be skillfully fabricated via hot or cold forming techniques. For hot forming, the optimal temperature range is between 1024 °C and 1232 °C. After hot forming, a solution annealing process at a minimum of 1052-1125 °C should be executed, succeeded by swift water quenching.
