Ti 6Al-4V (Grade 5 Titanium) is the most widely used titanium alloy, representing over 50% of titanium usage. It is typically used in the annealed state, with an operating temperature up to 400°C (750°F). Ti 6Al/4V is welded using matching or ELI filler wire and offers significantly higher strength than commercial pure titanium tubes, with enhanced stiffness and thermal properties (excluding thermal conductivity). The thermal conductivity of Grade 5 titanium tube is about 60% lower than CP titanium. This grade can be heat-treated for improved strength and performance, offering robust formability, low density, and exceptional corrosion resistance.

Our hot-finished titanium tubes are meticulously crafted, available as hot-rolled or hot-extruded. Each tube is straightened, precisely machined inside and out, with a polished surface. We offer both heat-treated and non-heat-treated options. All our products undergo 100% ultrasonic flaw detection to ensure impeccable quality.
Titanium Tube Materials Available:
Hot-rolled Titanium Tubes: Outer Diameter (OD) 19mm to 325mm, wall thickness ranging from 9mm to 30mm, and lengths up to 5000mm, subject to mutual agreement. Hot-extruded Titanium Tubes: OD 50mm to 160mm, wall thickness 7mm to 35mm, and lengths up to 3000mm, also negotiable between manufacturer and customer.
Cold-finished Titanium Tubes
Our cold-finished titanium tubes are available in heat-treated forms, with surface-etched finishes. Each tube is rigorously hydrostatically or ultrasonically tested to meet stringent manufacturing specifications. Specifications: OD 6mm to 89mm, wall thickness from 0.5mm to 11mm, and lengths up to 6000mm, customizable based on mutual agreement.

Titanium Welded Pipes
DaXun specializes in manufacturing titanium pipes with diameters from 12.7mm to 38.1mm (0.47 in to 1.5 in), wall thickness from 0.4mm to 1.65mm (0.016 in to 0.065 in), and lengths up to 25000mm. Our titanium alloy pipes, in grades Gr1, Gr2, and Gr12, cater to the engineering and chemical industries. These welded pipes are produced from flat rolled raw material using advanced automatic tungsten inert gas (argon) welding and are heat treated inline. Each pipe undergoes stringent mechanical tests, geometrical measurements, and 100% ultrasonic and eddy current testing, along with pneumatic or hydrostatic testing. INTRODUCTION

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 Alloy Tube (UNS R56400) is renowned as the most popular titanium alloy in the industry. This duplex alpha+beta titanium alloy incorporates aluminium as an alpha stabiliser and vanadium as a beta stabiliser, providing exceptional strength. It performs superbly even at cryogenic temperatures of approximately 800°F (427°C). The ATI Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy is versatile, supporting annealing, solution treatment, and ageing processes. It excels in demanding applications such as compressor blades, discs, and rings for jet engines; fuselage and space capsule components; pressure containers; *** cases; helicopter rotor hubs; fasteners; and critical forgings where a high strength-to-weight ratio is essential.
  • The alloy undergoes initial melting via vacuum arc (VAR), electron beam (EB), or plasma arc hearth melting (PAM). Subsequent remelting is conducted in one or two vacuum arc steps to ensure quality and consistency.

  • 2. Stress Relief Anneal: 1,000 -1,200°F (538 - 649°C) for 1 to 8 hours; air or furnace cool
  • 3. Solution Heat Treatment: 1,675 -1,750°F (913 - 954°C) for 1 hour; water quench
  • 4. Aging Treatment: 975 -1,025°F (524 - 552°C) for 4 to 8 hours; air cool
  • Optimal properties in the solution-treated and aged condition are achieved by rapidly quenching small cross sections.
    Larger section sizes or quench delays can result in properties that are lower than the optimal values.

HARDNESS

Typical hardness ranges from Rockwell C 30-34 in the annealed condition to Rockwell C 35-39 in the solution and aged condition.

FORGEABILITY/ FORMABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy tubes are expertly forged at 1,750°F (954°C), with an end forging temperature of 1,450°F (788°C). To achieve optimal results, a reduction of at least 35% is recommended.
  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy, renowned for its superior strength and resilience, poses challenges in forming at room temperature, even post-annealing. However, intense forming processes such as bending or stretching can be conducted on annealed material at elevated temperatures up to 1,200°F (649°C) without compromising its mechanical properties. For hot sizing or forming, creep forming is ideal within the temperature range of 1,000 to 1,200°F (538 to 649°C), ensuring precision and durability.

MACHINABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy exhibits excellent machinability when employing techniques suited for austenitic stainless steels. Utilizing slow speeds, heavy feeds,
    rigid tooling, and generous applications of non-chlorinated cutting fluids ensures optimal results.

WELDABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Grade 5 Alloy Titanium Tube offers exceptional weldability in both annealed and solution/partially aged forms, particularly when ageing is incorporated.
  • Post-weld heat treatment is crucial, making it imperative to avoid contamination by oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen. Fusion welding can be effectively executed in an inert gas-filled chamber or with an inert gas shield covering the molten metal and adjacent hot zone. Spot welding, seam welding, and flash welding are feasible without requiring a protective atmosphere, maintaining the alloy's integrity.

SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy is susceptible to hydrogen contamination from improper pickling, and absorption of oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon during processes like forging, heat treatment, or brazing. Such contamination can detrimentally impact ductility, thereby reducing notch sensitivity and forming capabilities.
