Grade 2 Titanium Rod is the quintessential workhorse among titanium alloy rods, boasting a commendable strength-to-density ratio ideal for weight-sensitive applications. As a CP (commercially pure) titanium alloy, it strikes the perfect balance between strength and weight. It provides an exceptional combination of strength and ductility. With high impact strength and excellent weldability, it is highly corrosion-resistant in oxidizing conditions, alkaline media, brine solutions, weakly reducing environments, and wet ***. Additionally, it exhibits remarkable resistance to seawater and saline solutions. Its low density, robust strength-to-weight ratio, and superior corrosion resistance make Grade 2 Titanium Rod a top choice for diverse applications.

AMS 4928 - Bars, Forgings, and Forging Stock (Annealed)
AMS 4965 - Bars, Forgings (Solution treated and aged)
AMS 4967 - Bars, Forgings (Annealed, Heat Treatable)
In the solution treated and aged condition, rapid quenching of smaller sections yields optimal properties. For larger sections, or if quenching is delayed, the properties may be less than optimal.
Typical hardness in the annealed condition is Rockwell C 30-34, while in the solution treated and aged condition, it is around Rockwell C 35-39.
The Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy bar exhibits excellent machinability when processed using austenitic stainless steel machining methods. Employ slow machining speeds, high feed rates, rigid tooling, and ample non-chlorinated cutting fluids to ensure precision.
The Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy rod is highly weldable in both annealed and solution plus partially aged conditions, with aging achieved during post-weld heat treatment. It's crucial to avoid contamination with oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen. Fusion welding is best performed in an inert gas-filled chamber or with inert gas shielding the molten metal and adjacent heated zones, complemented by a tail shield. Spot, seam, and flash welding can be performed without protective atmosphere assistance.
The Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 titanium alloy rod is susceptible to hydrogen contamination from improper pickling and to contamination with oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon during forging, heat treating, and brazing. Such contamination can lead to reduced ductility, adversely affecting notch sensitivity and forming characteristics.

Avoid using titanium with strong reducing acids, fluoride solutions, pure oxygen, or anhydrous ***.
Grade 2 titanium showcases excellent corrosion resistance across various media, as detailed in Table 1. CP titanium excels in resisting corrosion in many environments, including:
CP titanium resists crevice corrosion in salt solutions better than stainless steels, and does not experience crevice corrosion below 80 °C (176°F) regardless of pH, even in super chlorinated settings.
Grade 2 titanium exhibits superb resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in hot chloride solutions and remains immune to SCC in seawater.
Titanium exhibits exceptional resistance against erosion in high-velocity water flows.
Seawater velocities up to 130 ft/sec (40 m/sec) have negligible impact on titanium. Even the presence of abrasive particles like sand only minimally affects its corrosion resistance.
Titanium absorbs no significant hydrogen when exposed to seawater, even at elevated temperatures. Hydrogen uptake occurs only if all three of the following conditions are met:
Titanium alloys show unique immunity to microbiologically influenced corrosion. Although biofouling is possible due to non-toxicity toward marine life, it can be minimized by chlorination or increasing water velocity through heat exchangers.
Titanium maintains its fatigue performance in seawater, with endurance limits and *** growth rates identical to those in air.
Titanium is positioned near the noble end of the galvanic series, close to stainless steels, typically acting as the cathode when coupled with other metals. It remains unaffected by galvanic corrosion but can accelerate the corrosion of the other metal. Coupling with more noble metals like graphite enhances titanium's passivity.
Grade 2 Titanium Rod shows no degradation in fatigue properties in seawater. Both fatigue endurance limits and *** growth rates are consistent whether tested in air or seawater.
CP2 Grade Titanium Rod is highly weldable with proper precautions. Due to its reactivity, an inert gas shield is required on both the OD and ID of the rod. Ensure the material is free from grease or oil contamination.
Manual or automatic TIG welding is typically used for Grade 2 Titanium Rod, with or without filler wire. Use low heat input to minimize the heat-affected zone. Post-weld heat treatment is generally unnecessary.
