CORROSION RESISTANCE:

• This exceptional stainless steel offers superior resistance to corrosive environments, surpassing standard hardenable stainless steels.
• Its corrosion resistance is comparable to that of Alloy 304 in most media.
• Designed to withstand corrosion in chemical, petroleum, dairy, and food processing industries.
• However, prolonged exposure to stagnant seawater can lead to crevice or pitting corrosion.

WELDABILITY:

• Easily welded using most common fusion and resistance welding techniques.
• Note: Oxyacetylene welding is not recommended.
• Typically, no pre-heating is necessary before welding.
• Maintain an inter-pass temperature below 248°F for optimal results.
• Post-weld heat treatment enhances the toughness of the weld.

ELEVATED TEMPERATURE USE:

• Offers outstanding oxidation resistance up to approximately 1100°F.
• However, long-term exposure to high temperatures may reduce toughness in precipitation-hardened conditions.

PROCESSING - HOT FORMING:

• For forging, uniformly heat to 2150-2200°F and maintain for half an hour per inch of thickness.
• Optimal hot forming occurs within the 650-900°F range, while the steel is austenitic.
• Post-forging re-heat treatment at 1875-1925°F is essential for ideal hardening conditions.
• Cool down forgings to below 90°F to ensure grain refinement.

PROCESSING - COLD FORMING:

• The alloy is suited for mild cold forming operations due to its hardness in the annealed state.
• For more severe cold working, heat treat to condition H1150 to prevent cracking.
• A bend radius greater than 7T is typically required.
• Re-aging at the precipitation-hardening temperature post cold forming can enhance stress corrosion resistance.

• This alloy can be machined effectively in both solution-treated and precipitation-hardened conditions.
