When it comes to producing titanium bars, Daxun is the one you can trust.

Hot-rolled Titanium bars
Titanium bars are heated in the rolling mill and rolled through multiple passes. The specifications are complete and the performance meets the standards and requirements.
Cold-drawn bright titanium bars
Cold-drawn titanium bars are titanium bars drawn under cold working conditions. They have a smooth surface and can also be polished and ground.
Forged titanium bars
Forged titanium bars are forged multiple times to improve the mechanical properties and higher strength of the titanium bars.

SPECIFICATIONS

AMS 4928 - Bars, Forgings, and Forging Stock (Annealed)

AMS 4965 - Bars, Forgings (Solution treated and aged)

AMS 4967 - Bars, Forgings (Annealed, Heat Treatable)

HEAT TREATMENT

  • For applications requiring high hardness, tensile strength, and fatigue strength, annealing can be performed at 1,700-1,900°F (927 - 1,038°C).
DAXUN 6-4™ Grade 5 alloy offers versatile heat treatment options tailored to your needs.
  • 1. Anneal: 1,275 -1,400°F (691 - 760°C), for ½ to 2 hours, followed by air or furnace cooling.
  • 2. Stress Relief Anneal: 1,000 -1,200°F (538 - 649°C), for 1 to 8 hours, followed by air or furnace cooling.
  • 3. Solution Heat Treat: 1,675 -1,750°F (913 - 954°C), for 1 hour, followed by water quenching.
  • 4. Aging: 975 -1,025°F (524 - 552°C), for 4 to 8 hours, followed by air cooling.

In the solution treated and aged condition, rapid quenching of small sections yields optimal properties. Larger sections or delayed quenching may result in less than optimal properties.

HARDNESS

Typical hardness in the annealed condition is Rockwell C 30-34, and about Rockwell C 35-39 in the solution-treated and aged condition.

Forgeability/Formability

  • Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy bar is best forged at 1,750°F (954°C), with a final forging temperature of 1,450°F (788°C). A minimum reduction of 35% is recommended to achieve optimal properties.
  • Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy bar is challenging to form at room temperature, even in the annealed state. Therefore, severe forming operations like bending or stretching should be performed on annealed material at temperatures up to 1,200°F (649°C) without compromising mechanical properties. Hot sizing or forming can be achieved through creep forming at temperatures between 1,000 - 1,200°F (538 - 649°C).

Machinability

Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy bar can be machined using methods designed for austenitic stainless steel, involving slow machining speeds, high feeds, rigid tools, and ample use of non-chlorinated cutting fluids.

Weldability

The Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy rod is exceptionally weldable whether in its annealed state or in a solution and partially aged condition, where aging is achieved during post-weld heat treatment. Careful measures are required to prevent contamination by oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen. Fusion welding should be performed within an inert gas-filled chamber or using inert gas to safeguard the molten metal and heated zones, supplemented by a tail shield. Additionally, spot, seam, and flash welding can be conducted without needing a protective atmosphere.

Special Considerations

When handling Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 titanium alloy rods, it's crucial to avoid contamination by hydrogen from poor pickling practices, and by oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon during processes like forging, heat treating, and brazing. Such contamination can significantly reduce ductility, negatively impacting notch sensitivity and forming properties.

Grade 2 Titanium Rod

Exceptional corrosion resistance

Avoid using titanium with strong reducing acids, fluoride solutions, pure oxygen, or anhydrous *** to prevent degradation.

General Corrosion Resistance

The general corrosion rates for Grade 2 titanium across various media are detailed in Table 1. CP titanium is renowned for its superior resistance to a broad spectrum of environments, including:

  • Seawater and brines
  • Inorganic salts
  • Moist *** gas
  • Alkaline solutions
  • Oxidizing acids
  • Organics and organic acids
  • Sulfur compounds

Crevice Corrosion Resistance

CP titanium provides outstanding resistance to crevice corrosion in salt solutions compared to stainless steels. It does not exhibit crevice corrosion at temperatures below 80 °C (176°F), regardless of pH, even under highly chlorinated conditions.

Stress Corrosion Cracking

Grade 2 titanium demonstrates excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in hot chloride solutions and remains immune to SCC in seawater.

Erosion Corrosion Resistance

Titanium shows superior resistance to erosion in flowing
seawater, withstanding velocities up to 130 ft/sec (40 m/sec) with minimal impact on the material. Even the presence of abrasive particles, like sand, only slightly affects corrosion.

Hydrogen Embrittlement

Titanium does not significantly absorb hydrogen when exposed to seawater, even at elevated temperatures. Normally, hydrogen absorption occurs only under the following conditions:

  1. pH is <3 or >12
  2. Temperature exceeds 176F (80C)
  3. A mechanism for hydrogen generation exists, such as a galvanic couple or impressed current.

Bio-Corrosion Resistance

Titanium alloys showcase exceptional resistance to all forms of microbiologically influenced corrosion. Remarkably, these alloys exhibit no toxicity towards marine organisms, although biofouling can occur in seawater environments. This issue can be effectively mitigated through chlorination or by enhancing the water flow rate within heat exchangers.

Corrosion Fatigue

Titanium stands out from other materials with its unique ability to maintain fatigue performance in the presence of seawater. Remarkably, both fatigue endurance limits and fatigue *** growth rates remain consistent whether tested in air or seawater.

Galvanic Corrosion

Positioned toward the noble end of the galvanic series, titanium's proximity to stainless steel ensures it usually acts as the cathode when paired with other metals. Consequently, titanium remains unaffected by galvanic corrosion but may accelerate the corrosion of the coupled metal. When titanium is combined with more noble metals, such as graphite, it further enhances titanium's passivity.

Fatigue Properties

Grade 2 Titanium Rod distinguishes itself by maintaining fatigue properties even in seawater environments. The fatigue endurance limits and *** growth rates are identical whether the tests are conducted in air or seawater.

Weldability

CP2 Grade Titanium Rod offers excellent weldability when proper precautions are observed. Due to its reactivity, the rod must be shielded with an inert gas on both the OD and ID. Additionally, it should be free from any grease or oil contamination to ensure a successful weld.

Grade 2 Titanium Rod is best welded using manual or automatic TIG welding, with or without filler wire. To minimize the heat-affected zone, low heat input is recommended. Typically, post-weld heat treatment is not necessary for Titanium Rod.
