Containing at least 11.5% chromium, it resists corrosion effectively. Its corrosion resistance is at its peak when tempered and polished post-hardening. A general-purpose grade, 410 stainless steel pipe offers a balance of hardness and machinability, suited for applications requiring moderate heat and corrosion resistance along with high strength. Known for its high hardness, martensitic stainless steel sacrifices some other properties. Its poor weldability necessitates careful fabrication, often requiring a final heat treatment. Compared to austenitic stainless steels, martensitic types have lower corrosion resistance and face issues like reduced ductility below freezing and loss of strength above freezing due to over-tempering. This limits their operational temperature range. The 410 stainless steel pipe, a widely used 12% chromium martensitic variant, can be heat treated to achieve diverse mechanical properties, offering a mix of high strength, hardness, and good corrosion resistance. Ductile and forgeable, it remains magnetic in all states, making it unsuitable for severely corrosive environments.

• Corrosion Resistance
  410 stainless steel is resistant to dry air, fresh water, mild bases and acids, foods, steam, and hot gases.
  For maximum heat and corrosion resistance, 410 stainless steel must be hardened. It performs best when smooth and polished.
  Heat Resistance
  Exhibits good resistance to scaling up to approximately 650°C. However, it is generally not recommended for use at temperatures between 400 and 580°C due to reduced mechanical properties.
  Heat Treatment
  Fully anneal at 815-900°C, slow furnace cool to 600°C, then air cool.
  Process anneal at 650-760°C and air cool.
  Welding
