Titanium Welded Pipes

INTRODUCTION
- DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 Alloy Tube (UNS R56400) is the most widely recognized and utilized titanium alloy. This exceptional duplex alpha+beta titanium alloy leverages aluminum as an alpha stabilizer and vanadium as a beta stabilizer, making it a powerhouse of strength and versatility. Remarkably, it maintains its high performance even at cryogenic temperatures of around 800°F (427°C). The ATI Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy finds critical applications in annealing, solution treatment, and aging processes. It is the go-to material for manufacturing compressor blades, discs, and rings for jet engines, as well as for constructing fuselage and space capsule components, pressure containers, *** cases, helicopter rotor hubs, fasteners, and essential forgings that demand a high strength-to-weight ratio.

- DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy tubes are forged at a temperature of 1,750°F (954°C), with an end forging temperature of 1,450°F (788°C). For the best results, a reduction of at least 35% is recommended during forging.
- DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy is renowned for its challenging formability at room temperature, even post-annealing. As a consequence, demanding forming processes such as bending or stretching are best executed on annealed material, reaching temperatures up to 1,200°F (649°C) without compromising its mechanical properties. For hot sizing or forming, creep forming is an ideal technique, effective within a temperature range of 1,000 to 1,200°F (538 to 649°C).
MACHINABILITY
- DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy exhibits excellent machinability when treated similarly to austenitic stainless steels, utilizing slow speeds, heavy feeds, and robust
tooling, complemented by substantial quantities of non-chlorinated cutting fluid to ensure smooth operations.
WELDABILITY
- DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Grade 5 Alloy Titanium Tube is highly weldable, whether in annealed, solution treated, or partially aged forms, maintaining its integrity post-weld with appropriate aging treatments.
- Post-weld heat treatment is essential, and stringent measures should be taken to prevent contamination by oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen. Fusion welding is best performed in an inert gas-filled chamber or with an inert gas tail shield protecting the molten metal and surrounding hot zone. Spot welding, seam welding, and flash welding can be accomplished without requiring a protective environment.
SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS
- DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy must be meticulously handled to prevent hydrogen contamination from improper pickling, as well as absorption of oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon during processes such as forging, heat treatment, and brazing. Such contamination may impair ductility, compromising notch sensitivity and forming properties.
