Ti 6Al-4V (Grade 5 Titanium) is the most utilized titanium alloy, representing over 50% of total titanium usage. It is typically used in the annealed state and withstands temperatures up to 400°C (750°F). Ti 6Al/4V is compatible with matching or ELI filler wire for welding. It offers superior strength compared to commercial pure titanium tubes and better stiffness and thermal properties (excluding thermal conductivity), with about 60% lower thermal conductivity than CP titanium. It can be heat treated to achieve ideal strength and performance. Key benefits include strong formability, low density, and excellent corrosion resistance.

Grade 5 titanium seamlessly combines strength, corrosion resistance, weldability, and machinability, making it a favorite in military aircraft, aviation, rocket parts, precision-guided components, armor parts, ship equipment, military vacuum equipment, and more. The 6-4ELI variant is also used in surgical implants. Typically used up to 400°C, it enhances ductility and toughness in cold working. It offers excellent specific strength and is usually provided in the annealed state, easily heat-treated to increase strength for diverse applications. As a general-purpose titanium alloy, Ti 6Al-4V titanium seamless tube exhibits ideal properties in temperatures ranging from -210°C to 400°C. Grade 5 titanium alloy tube stands out for its high strength and toughness, along with superior welding and processing characteristics.

HARDNESS

Typical hardness ranges: Rockwell C 30-34 in the annealed condition and Rockwell C 35-39 in the solution and aged condition.

FORGEABILITY/ FORMABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy tubes achieve optimal forging at 1,750°F (954°C) with an end temperature of 1,450°F (788°C). A reduction of at least 35% is recommended for best results.
  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy presents challenges in forming at room temperature, even after annealing. Consequently, rigorous forming operations such as bending or stretching can be executed on annealed material at elevated temperatures up to 1,200°F (649°C) without compromising its mechanical properties. Creep forming is an effective method for hot sizing or forming at temperatures ranging from 1,000 to 1,200°F (538 to 649°C).

MACHINABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy is machinable using techniques suited for austenitic stainless steels, involving slow speeds, heavy feeds, and rigid

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Grade 5 Alloy Titanium Tube is effortlessly weldable in the annealed or solution and partially aged condition, with aging.
  • achieved during the post-weld heat treatment phase. Precautions are necessary to prevent contamination by oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen. Fusion welding can be conducted within an inert gas-filled chamber or with an inert gas tail shield applied to the molten metal and adjacent hot zone. Techniques such as spot welding, seam welding, and flash welding can be performed without a protective environment.

SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy risks hydrogen contamination from improper pickling, and the absorption of oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon during processes like forging, heat treatment, and brazing. Such contamination could diminish ductility, negatively affecting notch sensitivity and forming properties.
