AMS 4928 - High-Quality Bars, Forgings, and Forging Stock (Annealed)
AMS 4965 - High-Strength Bars, Forgings (Solution Treated and Aged)
AMS 4967 - Superior Bars, Forgings (Annealed, Heat Treatable)
Rapid quenching of small sections in the solution treated and aged condition yields optimal properties. Larger sections or delayed quenching may result in less than optimal properties.
In the annealed condition, typical hardness ranges from Rockwell C 30-34, and approximately Rockwell C 35-39 in the solution and aged condition.
Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy bar is machined using techniques akin to those for austenitic stainless steel. This entails slow machining speeds, high feed rates, stable tooling, and extensive use of non-chlorinated cutting fluids to ensure precision and durability.
Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy rod offers excellent weldability in both annealed and solution-aged conditions, with aging completed during subsequent heat treatments. To prevent contamination by oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen, welding is conducted in an inert gas-filled chamber or with inert gas shielding the molten metal and heated zones. Spot, seam, and flash welding can be executed without a protective atmosphere.
Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 titanium alloy rod is susceptible to contamination by hydrogen during improper pickling, and by oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon during forging, heat treating, and brazing. Such contamination can impair ductility, negatively impacting notch sensitivity and forming properties.
We produce bars tailored to your specifications.
Exceptional surface finish and straightness, impeccable roundness, and the tightest diameter tolerances (up to h5 as per ISO 286-2). Available in straightened, ground, and polished conditions.

Avoid using titanium with strong reducing acids, fluoride solutions, pure oxygen, or anhydrous ***.
Table 1 shows the general corrosion rates for Grade 2 titanium in various media. CP titanium offers excellent corrosion resistance in diverse environments including:
CP titanium demonstrates superior resistance to crevice corrosion in salt solutions compared to stainless steels. It remains resistant to crevice corrosion at temperatures below 80°C (176°F) regardless of pH, even under super chlorinated conditions.
Grade 2 titanium exhibits excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in hot chloride solutions and remains immune to SCC in seawater.
Titanium excels in resisting erosion in flowing environments.
Exhibiting exceptional resilience, our Grade 2 Titanium Rod withstands seawater velocities up to 130 ft/sec (40 m/sec) with negligible impact on the material. Even the presence of abrasive particles, such as sand, has only a minimal effect on its outstanding corrosion resistance.
Remarkably, titanium shows no significant absorption of hydrogen when exposed to seawater, even at elevated temperatures. Hydrogen absorption typically only occurs under the following precise conditions:
Titanium alloys exhibit unique immunity to microbiologically influenced corrosion. While biofouling can occur due to the non-toxic nature of titanium towards marine organisms, it can be effectively minimized by chlorination or by increasing water velocity through the heat exchanger.
Unlike many other materials, titanium does not exhibit a decrease in fatigue performance in the presence of seawater. Its fatigue endurance limits and fatigue *** growth rates remain consistent whether tested in air or seawater.
In the galvanic series, titanium is positioned near the noble end, close to stainless steels, and generally acts as the cathode when coupled with other metals. Thus, titanium is not affected by galvanic corrosion but can accelerate the corrosion of the coupled metal. When paired with more noble metals like graphite, titanium's passivity is further enhanced.
Grade 2 Titanium Rod maintains its fatigue properties in seawater, with consistent fatigue endurance limits and fatigue *** growth rates, similar to those in the air.
CP2 Grade Titanium Rod is highly weldable, provided the necessary precautions are taken. Its reactive nature requires an inert gas shield on both the OD and ID of the rod, and the material must be free of any grease or oil contamination.
Typically, Grade 2 Titanium Rods are welded using manual or automatic TIG welding, with or without filler wire. Low heat input is recommended to minimize the heat affected zone, and post-weld heat treatment is not usually necessary.
