No.1	After hot rolling, heat treatment, pickling or other equivalent treatment is applied.
No.2D	Annealing and pickling are performed after cold rolling; material is soft with surface of silver-white luster; used for general applications and deep drawing.
No.2B	After 2D finish, skin pass rolling is performed to obtain a more suitable luster; the surface becomes very exquisite; used for general applications.
No.3	Intermediate 100-120 grit finish; used for applications in which surface polishing is performed after shaping.

• Our products withstand corrosive attacks better than any standard hardenable stainless steels, offering exceptional durability.

WELDABILITY:

• Our TISCO 17-4 Stainless Steel Sheet can be masterfully welded using most common fusion and resistance methods, ensuring reliable and durable joints.
• Note that this premium grade stainless steel should not be joined using oxyacetylene welding techniques.
• Typically, no pre-heating is required for this high-intensity alloy, making it efficient and easy to work with.
• During welding, it is crucial to limit the inter-pass temperature to 248°F to maintain material integrity.
• Achieve superior toughness in the welds with a complete heat treatment, ensuring the highest performance standards.

ELEVATED TEMPERATURE USE:

• This alloy offers exceptional resistance to oxidation at elevated temperatures, up to approximately 1100°F.
• Be aware that long-term exposure to high temperatures can lead to reduced toughness in precipitation hardened conditions.

PROCESSING - HOT FORMING:

• For forging, heat uniformly to 2150-2200°F and maintain this temperature for half an hour per inch of thickness.
• The ideal temperature range for hot forming is between 650-900°F while the steel remains in its austenitic phase.
• For optimal hardening, re-heat treat the forgings at temperatures ranging from 1875-1925°F.
• Cool the forgings to below 90°F to ensure proper grain refinement and quality.

PROCESSING - COLD FORMING:

• Alloy 17-4 is best suited for mild cold forming operations due to its inherent hardness in the annealed (solution treated) state.
• For more severe cold working, heat treating the material to condition H1150 is recommended to mitigate the risk of cracking.
• A bend radius exceeding 7T is often necessary when performing cold forming operations with this alloy.
• Post cold forming, re-aging at the precipitation-hardening temperature is advised to enhance stress corrosion resistance.

MACHINABILITY:

• This alloy is highly machinable in both solution-treated and precipitation-hardening conditions, providing versatility for various machining applications.
