This grade hardens effectively with cold working, is easily weldable, and rarely requires post-weld annealing, ensuring outstanding performance across various corrosive environments.

GENERAL PROPERTIES
- 321 Stainless Steel Pipe (UNS S32100) is a titanium-stabilized austenitic stainless steel offering excellent overall corrosion resistance. It stands out with high resistance to intergranular corrosion after exposure to the chromium carbide precipitation temperature range of 800 - 1500°F (427 - 816°C). The alloy resists oxidation up to 1500°F (816°C) and boasts superior creep and stress rupture properties compared to 304 and 304L steel pipes. Additionally, it demonstrates good low-temperature toughness.
- The Stainless Steel Tube 321H (UNS S 32109) variant includes a higher carbon content (0.04 - 0.10), which enhances its creep resistance and strength at temperatures above 1000°F (537°C). Often, its carbon content allows for dual certification.
- Alloy 321 is only hardenable through cold working and not by heat treatment. It can be effortlessly welded and processed using standard shop fabrication techniques.

CORROSION RESISTANCE
- Exhibits excellent general corrosion resistance comparable to 304.
- Engineered for use within the chromium carbide precipitation range of 1800 - 1500°F (427 - 816°C).
- Suitable for use in most diluted organic acids at moderate temperatures.
- Applicable in pure phosphoric acid at lower temperatures.
- Functional in up to 10% diluted solutions at elevated temperatures.
- Resistant to polythionic acid stress corrosion cracking in hydrocarbon service.
- Effective in chloride or fluoride-free caustic solutions at moderate temperatures.
- Not recommended for use in chloride solutions, even at low concentrations, or in sulfuric acid service.
PROCESSING
Alloy 321/H can be easily welded and processed using standard shop fabrication methods.
HOT FORMING
- For optimal results, maintain working temperatures between 2100 - 2300°F (1149 - 1260°C) during forging, upsetting, and other hot working processes.
- The alloy is unsuitable for work at temperatures below 1700°F (927°C).
- After working, the material must be water quenched or fully annealed to restore maximum corrosion resistance.
COLD FORMING
- Highly ductile and forms effortlessly.
WELDING
- Easily welded using most standard processes.
- Post-weld heat treatment is unnecessary.
MACHINING
- The hardening rate of 321 makes it less machinable than 410 stainless steel, but similar to 304.
