Grade 2 Titanium Rod is the reliable workhorse among titanium alloy rods, boasting an exceptional strength-to-density ratio ideal for weight-sensitive applications. As a commercially pure (CP) titanium alloy, it strikes the perfect balance between strength and weight. This grade offers an excellent blend of strength and ductility, high impact resistance, and ease of welding. Notably, it excels in corrosion resistance in various environments, including oxidizing conditions, alkaline media, brine solutions, weakly reducing environments, wet ***, seawater, and saline solutions. The low density, remarkable strength-to-weight ratio, and outstanding corrosion resistance make Grade 2 Titanium Rod an unparalleled choice for diverse applications.

AMS 4928 - Bars, Forgings, and Forging Stock (Annealed)
AMS 4965 - Bars, Forgings (Solution Treated and Aged)
AMS 4967 - Bars, Forgings (Annealed, Heat Treatable)
In the solution treated and aged state, rapid quenching of small sections achieves optimal properties. Larger sections or delayed quenching may yield less desirable characteristics.
Typical hardness ranges from Rockwell C 30-34 in the annealed condition to Rockwell C 35-39 in the solution treated and aged condition.
The machining of Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy bar is efficient when employing austenitic stainless steel machining techniques. For optimal results, use slow machining speeds, high feeds, rigid tools, and generous amounts of non-chlorinated cutting fluids.
The Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy rod exhibits excellent weldability in both the annealed condition and the solution and partially aged condition-with aging occurring during post-weld heat treatment. It is crucial to prevent contamination from oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen. Fusion welding can be performed within an inert gas-filled chamber or with inert gas shielding. Spot, seam, and flash welding are also possible without protective atmospheres.
The Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 titanium alloy rod is susceptible to contamination by hydrogen during improper pickling and by oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon during forging, heat treating, and brazing. Such contamination can reduce ductility, negatively impacting notch sensitivity and forming characteristics.
We tailor-make bars to meet your specific requirements.
Our bars boast excellent surface finish and straightness, perfect roundness, and the tightest diameter tolerances (up to h5 as per ISO 286-2). Available in straightened, ground, and polished conditions.

Usage Advisory: Titanium should be avoided with strong reducing acids, fluoride solutions, pure oxygen, or anhydrous ***.
Our Grade 2 titanium offers outstanding general corrosion resistance across numerous environments. Detailed corrosion rates in various media are provided in Table 1, highlighting its resilience in:
Our CP titanium demonstrates excellent resistance to crevice corrosion in salt solutions, outperforming stainless steels. It remains unaffected at temperatures below 80 °C (176°F), regardless of pH, even under super chlorinated conditions.
Grade 2 titanium exhibits excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in hot chloride solutions and is immune to SCC in seawater.
Titanium offers remarkable resistance to erosion in high-velocity flow environments.
Engineered to endure seawater velocities of up to 130 ft/sec (40 m/sec), our material exhibits negligible deterioration. Even the presence of abrasive particles, like sand, only minimally affects its corrosion resistance.
Remarkably, titanium does not significantly absorb hydrogen when exposed to seawater, even at elevated temperatures. Hydrogen absorption typically occurs only under the following conditions:
Titanium alloys exhibit exceptional immunity to all forms of microbiologically influenced corrosion. However, they can accumulate biofouling in seawater due to their non-toxicity toward marine organisms. This can be managed through chlorination or by increasing water velocity through heat exchangers.
Unlike many materials, titanium does not suffer a reduction in fatigue performance when exposed to seawater. Its fatigue endurance limits and *** growth rates remain consistent in both air and seawater environments.
In the galvanic series, titanium is positioned near the noble end alongside stainless steels, generally acting as the cathode when coupled with other metals. As a result, titanium resists galvanic corrosion but can accelerate the corrosion of less noble metals. Coupling with more noble metals like graphite further enhances titanium's passivity.
Grade 2 Titanium Rod maintains its fatigue properties even in seawater, showing no degradation. Its fatigue endurance limits and *** growth rates are identical whether tested in air or seawater.
CP2 Grade Titanium Rod is highly weldable with proper precautions. Due to titanium's reactivity, it must be shielded with inert gas on both the OD and ID. The material must also be free of grease or oil.
Grade 2 Titanium Rod is typically welded using manual or automatic TIG welding, with or without filler wire. Utilizing low heat input minimizes the heat-affected zone, and post-weld heat treatment is rarely required.
