Titanium Welded Pipes

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 Alloy Tube (UNS R56400) stands as the preeminent titanium alloy known for its remarkable properties. This duplex alpha+beta titanium alloy integrates aluminium as an alpha stabiliser and vanadium as a beta stabiliser, offering unparalleled high strength suitable for cryogenic temperatures up to 800°F (427°C). Widely utilized in industries, ATI Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy excels in annealing, solution treatment, and ageing processes. Applications span across compressor blades, discs, and rings for jet engines, fuselage and space capsule components, pressure containers, *** cases, helicopter rotor hubs, fasteners, and crucial forgings, all leveraging its superior high strength-to-weight ratio.
  • The initial melting of the alloy employs vacuum arc (VAR), electron beam (EB), or plasma arc hearth melting (PAM). Remelting follows in one or two vacuum arc steps to ensure quality and consistency.

  • 2. Stress Relief Anneal: 1,000-1,200°F (538-649°C), 1 to 8 hours, air or furnace cool.
  • 3. Solution Heat Treatment: 1,675-1,750°F (913-954°C), 1 hour, water quench.
  • 4. Aging Treatment: 975-1,025°F (524-552°C), 4 to 8 hours, air cool.
  • Optimal properties are achieved in the solution treated and aged condition, especially for smaller cross sections that cool rapidly.
    Larger section sizes or delays in quenching may result in properties that are slightly below the optimal values.

HARDNESS

Typical hardness ranges from Rockwell C 30-34 in the annealed condition to Rockwell C 35-39 in the solution-treated and aged condition.

FORGEABILITY/FORMABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy tubes are forged at 1,750°F (954°C), concluding forging at 1,450°F (788°C). For superior results, a minimum reduction of 35% is recommended.
  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy presents a challenging forming process at room temperature, even in its annealed state. However, it excels in harsh forming conditions such as bending or stretching when annealed at temperatures up to 1,200°F (649°C) without losing its mechanical integrity. Creep forming is an ideal method for hot sizing or forming within the range of 1,000 to 1,200°F (538 to 649°C).

MACHINABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy showcases excellent machinability. It can be effectively machined using techniques suited for austenitic stainless steels, which include employing slow speeds, heavy feeds, and rigid setups.

DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Titanium Tube, Grade 5 (UNS R56400) stands out as the most sought-after titanium alloy. This duplex alpha+beta alloy utilizes aluminum as the alpha stabilizer and vanadium as the beta stabilizer. With robust strength, it performs exceptionally at low temperatures around 800°F (427°C). Widely used for annealing, solution treating, and aging, it finds applications in compressor blades, disks, and rings for jet engines; fuselage and space capsule components; pressure vessels; *** cases; helicopter rotor hubs; fasteners; and critical forgings requiring a high strength-to-weight ratio.
This alloy is initially melted via vacuum arc (VAR), electron beam (EB), or plasma arc hearth melting (PAM). Subsequent remelting occurs through one or two vacuum arc steps.

Heat Treatment

1. Annealing: Achieve optimal properties by annealing at temperatures between 1,275 -1,400°F (691 - 760°C) for ½ to 2 hours, followed by air or furnace cooling.
2. Stress Relief Annealing: For effective stress relief, anneal between 1,000 -1,200°F (538 - 649°C) for durations of 1 to 8 hours, then air or furnace cool.
3. Solution Heat Treating: Enhance your titanium tubes by solution heat treating at 1,675 -1,750°F (913 - 954°C) for 1 hour, followed by a water quench.
4. Aging: Attain superior aging properties by heating between 975 -1,025°F (524 - 552°C) for 4 to 8 hours, then air cool.

Optimum Properties

Small cross sections achieve rapid quenching in the solution-treated and aged condition. However, larger cross-section sizes or delayed quenching can lead to properties that are less than optimal.

Hardness

Typical hardness levels are Rockwell C 30-34 in the annealed condition and approximately Rockwell C 35-39 in the solution and aged condition.

Forgeability/Formability

DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Titanium Tube, Grade 5 Titanium Tube undergoes forging at 1,750°F (954°C) with a final forging temperature of 1,450°F (788°C). A reduction of at least 35% is recommended for optimal results.

Forming DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Titanium Tube, Grade 5 Titanium Tube at room temperature is challenging, even when annealed. Severe forming operations, such as bending or stretching, can be accomplished on the annealed material at temperatures up to 1,200°F (649°C) without altering its mechanical properties.
