A Global Leader in Stainless Steel Pipe Fabrication Services Like most non-stainless steels, martensitic 410 stainless steel pipe can be toughened by a "quench and temper" heat treatment. It contains enough chromium (at least 11.5%) to resist corrosion. Its corrosion resistance is highest when tempered and polished after hardening. A general-purpose grade of stainless steel pipe called 410 stainless steel pipe is usually hardened, but still machinable, and is used in applications requiring moderate heat and corrosion resistance and high strength. The high hardness of martensitic stainless steels is their primary characteristic, but some other properties are sacrificed. Poor weldability must be accommodated during fabrication, and a final heat treatment is usually required. Martensitic stainless steels have a lower corrosion resistance than ordinary austenitic stainless steels. They also lose ductility at temperatures below freezing and lose strength at temperatures above freezing due to over-tempering, which limits their useful operating temperature range. 410 stainless steel pipe is a widely used 12% chromium martensitic stainless steel pipe that can be heat treated to produce a range of mechanical properties. 410 stainless steel pipe has high strength and hardness while having good corrosion resistance. 410 Stainless Steel Tube is ductile and forgeable. It is magnetic in all circumstances. Therefore, it is not recommended for use where severe corrosion may occur.

Quick Response

  • Corrosion Resistance
    410 is resistant to dry air, fresh water, mild bases and acids, foods, steam, and hot gases.
    It must be hardened for maximum heat and corrosion resistance. Best performance when smooth.
    Heat Resistance
    Exhibits excellent resistance to scaling up to about 650°C. However, it is not typically recommended for use at temperatures between 400 and 580°C as mechanical properties may diminish.
    Heat Treatment
    Fully anneal at 815-900°C, then allow to cool slowly in a furnace to 600°C before air cooling.
    Process anneal at 650-760°C followed by air cooling.
    Welding
    Easily welded by all standard methods, but requires preheating to 150-260°C and post-weld annealing to reduce the likelihood of cracking.
