Grade 2 Titanium Rod Production Method

Daxun produces high-quality titanium bars that deliver high performance and can also manufacture according to customer specifications:

  • Titanium ingots undergo heat treatment and machining, immersion ultrasonic testing, mechanical properties testing, and macroscopic and microscopic structural inspection. Production process: hot-rolled titanium bars offer high efficiency and stable performance; forged titanium bars provide flexible sizing and multi-fire forging to improve overall performance; cold-drawn titanium bars are typically small-sized, high-precision bars, all delivered with a bright surface.

CUSTOMIZED HEAT TREATMENT

  • For high hardness, tensile strength, and fatigue strength, annealing can be performed at 1,700-1,900°F (927 - 1,038°C).
    DAXUN 6-4™ Grade 5 alloy offers versatile heat treatment options.
  • 1. Anneal: Heat at 1,275 -1,400°F (691 - 760°C) for ½ to 2 hours, followed by air or furnace cooling.
  • 2. Stress Relief Anneal: Heat at 1,000 -1,200°F (538 - 649°C) for 1 to 8 hours, followed by air or furnace cooling.
  • 3. Solution Heat Treat: Heat at 1,675 -1,750°F (913 - 954°C) for 1 hour, followed by a water quench.
  • 4. Aging: Heat at 975 -1,025°F (524 - 552°C) for 4 to 8 hours, followed by air cooling.

In the solution treated and aged condition, rapid quenching of small sections yields optimum properties. Larger section sizes and/or delayed quenching may result in less than optimal properties.

UNMATCHED HARDNESS

Typical hardness in the annealed condition is Rockwell C 30-34, and approximately Rockwell C 35-39 in the solution and aged condition.

EXCEPTIONAL FORGEABILITY/FORMABILITY

  • Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy bar is forged at 1,750°F (954°C) with a final forging temperature of 1,450°F (788°C). A minimum of 35% reduction is recommended to achieve optimum properties.
  • Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy bar presents a challenge to form at room temperature, even when annealed.
