As a premier titanium alloy tube manufacturer and supplier in China, Daxun Alloy delivers high-quality Grade 5 titanium pipes, acclaimed by numerous projects worldwide.
Ti 6Al-4V (Grade 5 Titanium) is the predominant titanium alloy tube, constituting over 50% of titanium usage. Typically annealed, it functions up to 400°C (750°F) and is welded with matching or ELI filler wire. This alloy boasts higher strength than commercial pure titanium tubes, along with enhanced stiffness and improved thermal properties, except for thermal conductivity, which is about 60% lower than CP titanium. It can be heat-treated for superior strength and performance, offering strong formability, low density, and excellent corrosion resistance.
This grade is a stellar blend of strength, corrosion resistance, weldability, and machinability, making it ideal for military aircraft, aviation, rocket parts, precision-guided components, armor parts, ship equipment, military vacuum equipment, and surgical implants (using 6-4ELI). Operating effectively at -210°C to 400°C, Grade 5 titanium seamlessly combines high strength and toughness with good welding and processing characteristics, making it the most commercialized titanium alloy.

- Titanium Alloy-(UNS R56400)
INTRODUCTION
- DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 Alloy Tube (UNS R56400) stands as the premier titanium alloy, celebrated for its duplex alpha+beta titanium composition. Utilizing aluminium as an alpha stabilizer and vanadium as a beta stabilizer, this alloy exhibits exceptional strength. It remains effective even at cryogenic temperatures of approximately 800°F (427°C). ATI Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy excels in annealing, solution treatment, and ageing processes. It is indispensable for compressor blades, discs, and rings in jet engines; fuselage and space capsule parts; pressure containers; *** casings; helicopter rotor hubs; fasteners; and high-strength forgings.
- The alloy is initially melted using advanced methods like vacuum arc (VAR), electron beam (EB), or plasma arc hearth melting (PAM). The remelting process is undertaken in one or two additional vacuum arc steps to ensure purity and consistency.

HARDNESS
Typical hardness in the annealed condition ranges from Rockwell C 30-34, and in the solution and aged condition, it ranges from Rockwell C 35-39.
FORGEABILITY/FORMABILITY
- DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy tubes are forged at 1,750°F (954°C), with an end forging temperature of 1,450°F (788°C). For best results, a reduction of at least 35% is recommended.
- DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy, renowned for its supreme strength, is challenging to form at room temperature, even post-annealing. For robust forming operations like bending or stretching, annealed material can be effectively shaped at temperatures soaring up to 1,200°F (649°C) without any compromise to its mechanical integrity. Utilizing creep forming, hot sizing or forming becomes feasible within a temperature spectrum of 1,000 to 1,200°F (538 to 649°C).
MACHINABILITY
- DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy exhibits commendable machinability when treated with techniques suitable for austenitic stainless steels, employing slow speeds, heavy feeds, and robust.
tooling coupled with substantial amounts of non-chlorinated cutting fluid.
WELDABILITY
- DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Grade 5 Alloy Titanium Tube demonstrates excellent weldability in both the annealed state and solution and partial aging forms, followed by post-weld heat treatment aging.
- To prevent contamination by oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen, strict precautions are essential. Fusion welding should occur in an inert gas-filled chamber or be protected by an inert gas tail shield applied to the molten metal and adjacent heated zones. Spot welding, seam welding, and flash welding are viable options even without a protective atmosphere.
SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS
- DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy is susceptible to hydrogen contamination through improper pickling, and the absorption of oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon during processes like forging, heat treatment, and brazing. Such contamination can deteriorate ductility, affecting notch sensitivity and forming characteristics.
