GENERAL PROPERTIES
The 317L Stainless Steel Pipe by Jiangsu Daxun Alloy Co., Ltd. is an exceptional molybdenum-containing low-carbon austenitic stainless steel. It boasts enhanced chromium, nickel, and molybdenum content, elevating its resistance to corrosion and chemicals such as sulfite, acetic, formic, citric, and tartaric acids. Its low carbon feature prevents sensitization during welding, enhancing its creep, rupture stress, and tensile strength at elevated temperatures. The pipe remains nonmagnetic when annealed but may exhibit slight magnetism post-welding.

CORROSION RESISTANCE
- The 317L alloy showcases unmatched corrosion resistance in harsh environments, particularly against a wide range of chemicals, especially acidic chlorides.
- Ideal for applications where minimizing contamination is critical.
- Its low carbon content offers superior resistance to intergranular corrosion.
- Effectively resists pitting in contact with phosphorus acids, chlorides, bromides, and iodides.
HEAT RESISTANCE
- All chromium-nickel-molybdenum steels, including 317L, exhibit excellent oxidation resistance.
- Displays a low rate of scaling in typical atmospheres at temperatures up to 1600-1650°F (871-899°C).
WELDING CHARACTERISTICS
- The 317L alloy can be welded successfully using all common fusion and resistance methods except oxyacetylene welding.
- For optimal welding of Type 317L steel, it is recommended to use AWS E317L/ER317L filler metal or austenitic, low carbon filler metals with higher molybdenum content than Type 317L, or a nickel-base filler metal with ample chromium and molybdenum content to surpass the corrosion resistance of Type 317L.
MACHINABILITY
- To minimize this alloy's work hardening tendency, employ low speeds and constant feeds.
- Considered tougher than 304 stainless steel and characterized by long stringy chips, the use of chip breakers is advisable.
