CORROSION RESISTANCE:

• 316 stainless steel is renowned for its superior resistance compared to 304, especially in diverse atmospheric conditions and corrosive environments, thanks to its elevated chromium and molybdenum content.

WELDING CHARACTERISTICS:

• Boasting exceptional weldability, 316 stainless steel can be welded by all standard fusion methods, with or without filler metals.
• For optimal corrosion resistance, heavy welded sections of Grade 316 should undergo post-weld annealing, which is unnecessary for Grade 316L.

HEAT TREATMENT:

• Annealing should be performed in the temperature range of 1900 to 2100°F (1038 to 1149°C).
• This alloy cannot be hardened through heat treatment.
• Special attention is required to counteract the higher thermal expansion coefficient, preventing warping and distortion.

PROCESSING - HOT FORMING:

• Most manufacturers recommend a maximum forging temperature between 2100°F and 2300°F.
• Avoid forging below 1700°F (927°C). For best

PROCESSING - COLD FORMING:

• Types 316/316L are highly tough and ductile, making them ideal for cold working processes like roll forming, swaging, cold heading, and deep drawing.
