Titanium Welded Pipes
DaXun specializes in manufacturing and supplying titanium pipes ranging from diameters of 12.7mm to 38.1mm (0.47in to 1.5in), with wall thickness from 0.4mm to 1.65mm (0.016in to 0.065in). With lengths extending up to 25000mm, we cater to the engineering and chemical industries with Gr1, Gr2, and Gr12 titanium alloy pipes. Our titanium welded pipes are produced from flat rolled raw materials using automatic tungsten inert gas (argon) welding on electric pipe welders and are heat treated onsite. Each pipe undergoes rigorous mechanical testing, geometrical measurements, and 100% ultrasonic and eddy current testing, as well as pneumatic or hydrostatic testing. Packaging conforms to customer specifications. Our manufacturing and inspection processes ensure our thin wall welded pipes adhere to ASTM B 338 and ASME SB 338 standards.

Leveraging aluminum as an alpha stabilizer and vanadium as a beta stabilizer, this high-strength alloy thrives in cryogenic conditions up to 800°F (427°C). Ideal for annealing, solution treatment, and ageing, it finds critical applications in jet engines (compressor blades, discs, rings), aerospace (fuselage, space capsules), and defense (pressure containers, *** cases, helicopter rotor hubs, fasteners). Its exceptional strength-to-weight ratio also makes it indispensable for crucial forgings.
  • The alloy's journey begins with vacuum arc (VAR), electron beam (EB), or plasma arc hearth melting (PAM). Subsequent remelting is performed through one or two vacuum arc steps to ensure purity and quality.

  • 3. Solution Heat Treatment: 1,675 -1,750°F (913 - 954°C) for 1 hour, concluded with a water quench.
  • 4. Aging Treatment: 975 -1,025°F (524 - 552°C) for 4 to 8 hours, then air-cool.
  • Achieve superior properties in the solution-treated and aged condition. Rapidly quench small cross sections; larger sections or delays may result in suboptimal properties.
    Larger section sizes or quench delays can lead to properties that are less than optimal.

HARDNESS

Typical hardness ranges from Rockwell C 30-34 in the annealed condition, to Rockwell C 35-39 in the solution-treated and aged state.

FORGEABILITY/ FORMABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy tubes should be forged at 1,750°F (954°C), ending at 1,450°F (788°C). For best results, a reduction of at least 35% is recommended.
  • Crafted to meet the highest standards in defense and aerospace applications, the DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy presents significant challenges in forming at room temperature. Even when annealed, it requires extreme operations like bending or stretching to be performed at elevated temperatures up to 1,200°F (649°C), ensuring its mechanical properties remain unaltered. For precise hot sizing or forming, creep forming can be employed within the temperature range of 1,000 to 1,200°F (538 to 649°C).

MACHINABILITY

    tooling. Utilize substantial amounts of non-chlorinated cutting fluid for optimal results.

The DAXUN 6-4 Grade 5 Titanium Tube offers unparalleled versatility, with the ability to undergo multiple heat treatment processes for tailored performance.
1. Annealing: Conducted at temperatures ranging from 1,275°F to 1,400°F (691°C to 760°C) for ½ to 2 hours, followed by air or furnace cooling.
2. Stress Relief Annealing: Executed between 1,000°F and 1,200°F (538°C to 649°C) for durations of 1 to 8 hours, cooled by air or furnace.
3. Solution Heat Treating: Performed at 1,675°F to 1,750°F (913°C to 954°C) for 1 hour, followed by a water quench to lock in the properties.
4. Aging: Carried out at temperatures from 975°F to 1,025°F (524°C to 552°C) for 4 to 8 hours with air cooling, enhancing material strength.

Optimum Properties

Achieve the best properties in smaller cross sections with rapid quenching. Note that larger cross-section sizes or delayed quenching could result in suboptimal performance.

Hardness

In the annealed state, the typical hardness is Rockwell C 30-34, and it increases to approximately Rockwell C 35-39 in the solution-treated and aged condition.

Forgeability/Formability

The DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Titanium Tube, Grade 5 Titanium Tube is optimally forged at 1,750°F (954°C) with a final temperature of 1,450°F (788°C). A reduction of at least 35% is recommended for superior results.

While forming the DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Grade 5 Titanium Tube is challenging at room temperature, severe forming operations such as bending or stretching can be successfully performed on the annealed material at temperatures up to 1,200°F (649°C) without altering its mechanical properties. For hot sizing or forming, creep forming is effective between 1,000°F and 1,200°F (538°C to 649°C).

Machinability

The DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Grade 5 Titanium Tube can be machined using methods applicable to austenitic stainless steels, characterized by slow speeds, high feeds, excellent tool rigidity, and substantial use of non-chlorinated cutting fluids.

Weldability

The DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Grade 5 Titanium Tube is highly weldable in both the annealed and solution-treated, partially aged conditions. Subsequent aging

occurs during post-weld heat treatment. It is crucial to prevent contamination with oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen. Fusion welding is best performed in an inert gas-filled chamber or with an inert gas tail shield over the molten metal and nearby hot zones. Spot welding, seam welding, and flash welding can also be executed without a protective atmosphere.

Special Considerations

The DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Grade 5 Titanium Tube is vulnerable to hydrogen contamination from improper pickling, and to the absorption of oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon during forging, heat treating, and brazing. Such contamination can diminish ductility and impair notch sensitivity and formability.
