Grade 2 Titanium Rod is the benchmark among titanium alloy rods, offering a remarkable strength-to-density ratio perfect for weight-sensitive applications. As a CP (commercially pure) titanium alloy, it presents the ideal balance of strength and weight, complemented by excellent ductility. With high impact strength and exceptional weldability, it excels in corrosion resistance under oxidizing conditions, alkaline media, brine solutions, weakly reducing environments, and wet ***. Its robustness against seawater and saline solutions further validates its application versatility. The low density, coupled with the high strength-to-weight ratio and outstanding corrosion resistance, makes Grade 2 Titanium Rod an optimal choice for a multitude of demanding applications.

AMS 4928 - Bars, Forgings, and Forging Stock (Annealed)
AMS 4965 - Bars, Forgings (Solution treated and aged)
AMS 4967 - Bars, Forgings (Annealed, Heat Treatable)
In the solution treated and aged condition, rapid quenching of small sections yields optimum properties. However, larger sections or delayed quenching may result in suboptimal properties.
Typical hardness in the annealed condition ranges from Rockwell C 30-34, while in the solution treated and aged condition, it ranges from Rockwell C 35-39.
The Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy bar offers exceptional machinability using methods akin to those used for austenitic stainless steel. Employ slow machining speeds, high feeds, and robust tools, coupled with generous amounts of non-chlorinated cutting fluids, to achieve optimal results.
The Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy rod boasts excellent weldability in both the annealed condition and in the solution and partially aged states-with aging efficiently achieved during post-weld heat treatment. To avoid contamination from oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen, welding must be performed in an inert gas-filled chamber or using inert gas to shield the molten metal and adjacent heated zones, supplemented with a tail shield. Spot, seam, and flash welding can be executed without a protective atmosphere.
Be wary of hydrogen contamination in the Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 titanium alloy rod from improper pickling, and of oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon contamination during forging, heat treatment, brazing, and similar processes. Such contamination can lead to a reduction in ductility, negatively affecting notch sensitivity and forming characteristics.

Table 1 showcases the general corrosion rates for Grade 2 titanium in numerous media. CP titanium excels in resisting corrosion across a broad range of environments, including:
Compared to stainless steels, CP titanium demonstrates remarkable resistance to crevice corrosion in salt solutions under temperatures below 80 °C (176°F), irrespective of pH, even in highly chlorinated conditions.
Grade 2 titanium offers outstanding resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in hot chloride solutions and is immune to SCC in seawater.
Titanium provides excellent resistance to erosion in flowing conditions.
Withstanding seawater velocities up to 130 ft/sec (40 m/sec) effortlessly, our titanium material shows negligible impact even in the presence of abrasive particles such as sand, ensuring minimal corrosion.
Titanium exposed to seawater absorbs negligible hydrogen, even at elevated temperatures. Hydrogen absorption in titanium typically occurs only when all three of the following conditions are met:
Titanium alloys exhibit an unparalleled resistance to all forms of microbiologically influenced corrosion. Though non-toxic to marine organisms, leading to potential biofouling, this can be mitigated through chlorination or by increasing water velocity in heat exchangers.
Unlike many other materials, titanium maintains its fatigue performance in seawater. It exhibits the same fatigue endurance limits and fatigue *** growth rates in both air and seawater.
In the galvanic series, titanium is positioned near stainless steels at the noble end, acting as a cathode when coupled with other metals. This prevents galvanic corrosion of titanium but can accelerate corrosion in the coupled metal. When paired with more noble metals like graphite, titanium's passivity is further enhanced.
Grade 2 Titanium Rods retain their fatigue properties even in seawater, showing no degradation in fatigue endurance limits or fatigue *** growth rates, maintaining consistency whether tested in air or seawater.
CP2 Grade Titanium Rods offer excellent weldability provided the necessary precautions are taken. Due to titanium's reactivity, an inert gas shield must cover both the OD and ID of the rod, and the material must be free from grease or oil contamination.
Grade 2 Titanium Rods are usually welded using manual or automatic TIG welding, with or without filler wire. To minimize the size of the heat-affected zone, low heat input is recommended. Post-weld heat treatment is typically not required.
