CORROSION RESISTANCE Alloy 2205 stands out with its exceptional resistance to chloride-induced pitting and stress corrosion cracking, ensuring longevity and reliability in demanding environments.
ELEVATED TEMPERATURE RESISTANCE The ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code specifies an upper-temperature limit of 600°F (315°C) for Alloy 2205. Prolonged exposure beyond this threshold may lead to embrittlement, impacting material performance.
MECHANICAL PROPERTIES Alloy 2205 boasts more than double the strength of traditional austenitic stainless steels in the annealed condition and can be delivered in a cold-worked state with yield strength exceeding 160 ksi. It maintains excellent toughness at temperatures as low as -50°F (-10°C).
WORKABILITY Alloy 2205 is highly adaptable and can be cold formed. However, due to its high work-hardening rate, intermediate anneals may be necessary. Post-forming annealing is recommended to achieve optimal stress corrosion resistance, whether hot or cold-formed.
Our forming capabilities are unmatched, featuring advanced extrusion and cold working assets for tube and pipe manufacturing. We proudly operate one of the world's largest pilger mills and utilize a unique hydroforming process for precision fittings, setting the benchmark in the industry.

The Duplex 2205 stainless steel pipe, crafted with precision by Jiangsu Daxun Alloy Co., Ltd., is a superior duplex ferritic-austenitic stainless steel. Comprising 22% chromium, 3% molybdenum, and 5-6% nickel, it stands as the most widely used duplex stainless steel grade. Its yield strength is twice that of regular austenitic grades, boasting exceptional fatigue strength. Moreover, it excels in resisting stress corrosion cracking, crevice, pitting, erosion, and general corrosion even in the harshest conditions.
Most manufacturers recommend a maximum hot forming temperature between 2010 and 2100°F (1100 and 1150°C). Care should be taken to ensure the workpiece is compact to avoid cracking in cooler areas.
Duplex 2205 Stainless Steel Tube demonstrates exceptional formability across various manufacturing processes. However, its notable high strength can pose challenges. Even with robust equipment, the increased springback due to this grade's high strength must be meticulously managed.
Duplex 2205 presents a slightly higher machining challenge compared to 300 series austenitic stainless steels. It demands greater cutting forces, accelerating tool wear. Here are some essential machining guidelines: A) Utilize a powerful, rigid machine with exceptionally strong tool and workpiece mounts; B) Minimize tool extensions to reduce vibration; C) Ensure the tool nose radius is as small as necessary to maintain a sharp edge while providing adequate strength; D) Sequence your machining to ensure the depth of cut always stays below the work-hardened layer from the prior operation.
