Duplex 2205 Round Bar is an exceptional duplex ferritic-austenitic stainless steel known for its robust composition: 22% chromium, 3% molybdenum, and 5-6% nickel. This widely-used grade boasts a yield strength that is double that of standard austenitic stainless steels. It excels in fatigue strength and offers unparalleled resistance to stress corrosion cracking, crevice, pitting, erosion, and general corrosion, even in the harshest environments.
Leading Duplex 2205 producers recommend a maximum hot forming temperature between 2010 and 2100°F (1100 to 1150°C). If the workpiece is not compact, the edges may cool significantly faster than the bulk, increasing the risk of cracking.
Duplex 2205 demonstrates excellent formability across various fabrications. Its high strength can pose challenges; hence, equipment must be powerful enough, and allowances should be made for higher spring-back due to the grade's inherent strength.
Duplex stainless steel bar 2205 presents a slightly higher challenge in machining compared to the 300 series austenitic stainless steel. This necessitates more robust cutting forces, leading to quicker tool wear. To optimize machining, consider the following: A) Utilize a powerful, sturdy machine with a secure tool and workpiece mount; B) Maintain minimal tool extensions to reduce vibrations; C) Ensure the tool nose radius is only as long as necessary, maintaining a sharp carbide edge while ensuring strength; D) Sequence machining operations so each cut depth stays beneath the work-hardened layer from the previous step.
