With a chromium content of at least 11.5%, it boasts impressive corrosion resistance, which peaks when tempered and polished post-hardening. This general-purpose grade of stainless steel pipe is typically hardened yet remains machinable, making it ideal for applications that demand moderate heat and corrosion resistance, paired with high strength. The hallmark of martensitic stainless steels lies in their significant hardness, albeit with some trade-offs in other properties. Fabrication challenges like poor weldability necessitate careful handling, often culminating in a final heat treatment. Compared to standard austenitic stainless steels, martensitic variants exhibit lower corrosion resistance and reduce ductility at sub-zero temperatures. They also lose strength if over-tempered at higher temperatures, restricting their operational range. The 410 stainless steel pipe, a widely utilized 12% chromium martensitic variant, can undergo heat treatment to achieve diverse mechanical properties. Known for its high strength and hardness coupled with good corrosion resistance, the 410 Stainless Steel Tube is both ductile and forgeable, and retains magnetism in all states. However, it isn't recommended where severe corrosion is a concern.

  • Corrosion Resistance
    410 stainless steel resists dry air, fresh water, mild bases and acids, food products, steam, and hot gases.
    For optimal heat and corrosion resistance, 410 must be hardened. Its performance is best when the surface is smooth.
    Heat Resistance
    410 stainless steel shows good resistance to scaling up to approximately 650°C, but it's generally not recommended for use between 400°C and 580°C due to reduced mechanical properties.
    Heat Treatment
    Full annealing: 815-900°C, slow furnace cooling to 600°C, then air cooling.
    Process annealing: 650-760°C followed by air cooling.
    Welding
    410 stainless steel can be welded using all standard methods. Preheating to 150-260°C and post-weld annealing are essential to minimize cracking.
