GENERAL PROPERTIES
The 317L Stainless Steel Pipe is a sophisticated molybdenum-containing, low-carbon austenitic stainless steel. Enhanced with additional chromium, nickel, and molybdenum, it offers superior corrosion and chemical resistance, particularly against sulfite, acetic, formic, citric, and tartaric acids. Its low carbon content ensures resistance to sensitization during welding and delivers higher creep, rupture stress, and tensile strength at elevated temperatures. This steel is nonmagnetic when annealed but may gain slight magnetism post-welding.
APPLICATIONS

CORROSION RESISTANCE
- Boasts exceptional corrosion resistance in challenging environments, particularly in acidic chloride conditions.

WELDING CHARACTERISTICS
- Successful with all common fusion and resistance welding methods, except oxyacetylene welding.
- For optimal results, use AWS E317L/ER317L filler metal or other austenitic, low carbon filler metals with higher molybdenum content than Type 317L or nickel-base filler metals with sufficient chromium and molybdenum to surpass the corrosion resistance of Type 317L.
MACHINABILITY
- Employing low speeds and constant feeds helps reduce this alloy's tendency to work harden.
- More challenging than 304 stainless due to its long, stringy chips; using chip breakers is recommended.
