GENERAL PROPERTIES
Duplex 2205 Round Bar is a high-performance duplex ferritic-austenitic stainless steel bar, boasting a composition of 22% chromium, 3% molybdenum, and 5-6% nickel. This grade is the most prevalent among duplex stainless steels, offering double the yield strength of standard austenitic grades. It excels in fatigue strength and provides outstanding resistance against stress corrosion cracking, crevice, pitting, erosion, and general corrosion even under harsh conditions.

CORROSION RESISTANCE
- With its high chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen content, Duplex 2205 exhibits superior corrosion resistance compared to both 316 and 316L in a majority of environments.
- The alloy's components also grant it exceptional resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, even in oxidizing and acidic solutions.
- It is resistant to chloride stress corrosion cracking and can withstand temperatures up to approximately 302°F (150°C).
- The ferritic phase in Duplex 2205 enhances its performance in caustic environments.
HEAT RESISTANCE
- Like other duplex stainless steels, Duplex 2205 boasts good oxidation resistance at elevated temperatures.
- However, it is subject to embrittlement when exposed to temperatures above 572°F (300°C) even for short durations; thus, it is not recommended for use beyond 572°F (300°C).
WELDING CHARACTERISTICS
- Features commendable weldability characteristics.
- Welding should typically not be done without filler metal to avoid excessive ferrite formation.
HEAT TREATMENT
- The annealing temperature range falls between 1868 to 2012°F (1020 to 1100°C).
- Duplex 2205 cannot be hardened by heat treatment but does undergo work-hardening.
- Special measures are needed to counteract a higher coefficient of thermal expansion to prevent warping and distortion.
PROCESSING - HOT FORMING
Most manufacturers recommend a maximum hot forming temperature between 2010 and 2100°F (1100 to 1150°C). For non-compact work pieces, cooler edge regions pose a risk of cracking.
