AMS 4928 - Bars, Forgings, and Forging Stock (Annealed)
AMS 4965 - Bars, Forgings (Solution treated and aged)
AMS 4967 - Bars, Forgings (Annealed, Heat Treatable)
Rapid quenching of small sections in the solution treated and aged condition yields optimum properties. Larger sections and/or delayed quenching may result in less than optimal properties.
Typical hardness in the annealed condition is Rockwell C 30-34, and about Rockwell C 35-39 in the solution and aged condition.
The Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy bar can be machined using methods applicable to austenitic stainless steel. This requires slow machining speeds, high feed rates, rigid tools, and the application of large quantities of non-chlorinated cutting fluids to ensure precision and quality.
The Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy rod is highly weldable in both the annealed condition and the solution and partially aged condition, with aging typically completed during post-weld heat treatment. It is crucial to prevent contamination with oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen. Fusion welding can be carried out in an inert gas-filled chamber or with inert gas shielding the molten metal and heated zones, using a tail shield. Spot, seam, and flash welding can be performed without a protective atmosphere.
The Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 titanium alloy rod may suffer contamination from hydrogen during improper pickling, and from oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon during processes like forging, heat treating, and brazing. Such contamination can lead to a reduction in ductility, negatively impacting notch sensitivity and forming characteristics.
We specialize in producing bars tailored to your specific requirements.
Our bars offer excellent surface quality and straightness, perfect roundness, and the tightest diameter tolerances (according to ISO 286-2, up to h5). Available in straightened, ground, and polished conditions.

Titanium should not be used with strong reducing acids, fluoride solutions, pure oxygen, or anhydrous ***.
The general corrosion rates for Grade 2 titanium in various media are shown in Table 1. CP titanium offers excellent corrosion resistance in diverse environments including:
CP titanium displays superior resistance to crevice corrosion in salt solutions compared to stainless steels. It remains unaffected by crevice corrosion at temperatures below 80°C (176°F) irrespective of pH, even in highly chlorinated conditions.
Grade 2 titanium demonstrates outstanding resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in hot chloride solutions and is immune to SCC in seawater.
Titanium exhibits excellent resistance to erosion in flowing environments.
Seawater with velocities up to 130 ft/sec (40 m/sec) exhibits negligible impact on this material. Even the presence of abrasive particles, such as sand, has only a minimal effect on its corrosion resistance.
Titanium shows no significant hydrogen absorption when exposed to seawater, even at elevated temperatures. Typically, hydrogen absorption occurs only under the following conditions:
Titanium alloys exhibit exceptional immunity to all forms of microbiologically influenced corrosion. While these alloys do not show toxicity towards marine organisms, biofouling can occur in seawater. This can be minimized through chlorination or by increasing water velocity through heat exchangers.
Titanium stands out from many other materials by maintaining its fatigue performance in seawater. The fatigue endurance limits and fatigue *** growth rates are identical whether tested in air or seawater.
Titanium, positioned towards the noble end of the galvanic series near stainless steels, usually acts as the cathode when coupled with other metals. While it won't suffer from galvanic corrosion, it can accelerate corrosion of the other metal. Coupling titanium with more noble metals, like graphite, enhances its passivity.
Grade 2 Titanium Rod maintains its fatigue properties in seawater, unlike many other materials. The fatigue endurance limits and fatigue *** growth rates are consistent when tested in both air and seawater.
CP2 Grade Titanium Rod is highly weldable with proper precautions. Due to titanium's reactivity, an inert gas shield must be applied to both the OD and ID of the rod. The material must also be clear of any grease or oil contamination.
Grade 2 Titanium Rod is typically welded using manual or automatic TIG welding, with or without filler wire. Low heat input should be employed to minimize the heat-affected zone size. Post-weld heat treatment is generally not required for Titanium Rod.
