Grade 2 Titanium Rod is the powerhouse among titanium alloy rods, offering an optimal strength-to-density ratio for weight-sensitive applications. As a CP (commercially pure) titanium alloy, it strikes the perfect balance between strength and weight, providing outstanding strength and ductility. Its high impact strength and excellent weldability make it highly versatile. Remarkably resistant to oxidation, alkaline media, brine solutions, mildly reducing environments, and wet ***, this rod excels in corrosion resistance. Additionally, it is highly resistant to seawater and saline solutions. With its low density, high strength-to-weight ratio, and superior corrosion resistance, Grade 2 Titanium Rod is ideal for a wide range of applications.

AMS 4928 - Bars, Forgings, and Forging Stock (Annealed)
AMS 4965 - Bars, Forgings (Solution treated and aged)
AMS 4967 - Bars, Forgings (Annealed, Heat Treatable)
In the solution treated and aged state, rapid quenching of smaller sections yields optimum properties. Larger sections or delayed quenching may result in less than optimal properties.
Typical hardness ranges from Rockwell C 30-34 in the annealed condition to Rockwell C 35-39 in the solution-treated and aged condition.
The Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy bar can be proficiently machined using techniques applicable for austenitic stainless steel, involving slow machining speeds, high feed rates, and rigid tooling. The use of copious amounts of non-chlorinated cutting fluids is recommended to achieve optimal results.
The Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy rod offers excellent weldability in both the annealed state and the solution and partially aged condition, with subsequent aging achievable via post-weld heat treatment. Preventative measures are essential to avoid contamination from oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen. Fusion welding should be conducted in an inert gas-filled chamber or utilizing inert gas to shield the molten metal and adjacent heated zones, supplemented by a tail shield. Spot, seam, and flash welding can be executed without a protective atmosphere.
Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 titanium alloy rod is susceptible to hydrogen contamination through improper pickling, as well as oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon contamination during processes such as forging, heat treating, and brazing. Such contamination can reduce ductility, negatively impacting notch sensitivity and forming characteristics.
We tailor the production of bars to meet your specific needs.
Our bars boast excellent surface quality and straightness, perfect roundness, and the tightest diameter tolerances (up to h5 according to ISO 286-2). Available in straightened, ground, and polished conditions.

Titanium should not be used with strong reducing acids, fluoride solutions, pure oxygen, or anhydrous ***.
The general corrosion rates for Grade 2 titanium across various media are detailed in Table 1. Commercially Pure (CP) titanium demonstrates commendable corrosion resistance in a wide range of environments including:
CP titanium shows impressive resistance to crevice corrosion in salt solutions compared to stainless steels. CP titanium will not exhibit crevice corrosion at temperatures below 80°C (176°F), regardless of pH, even under super chlorinated conditions.
Grade 2 titanium exhibits outstanding resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in hot chloride solutions and remains immune to SCC in seawater.
Titanium demonstrates excellent resistance to erosion in flowing conditions.
Seawater with velocities up to 130 ft/sec (40 m/sec) shows negligible effect on the material. Even the presence of abrasive particles like sand has only a minimal impact on corrosion.
Titanium exhibits no significant absorption of hydrogen when exposed to seawater, even at elevated temperatures. Hydrogen absorption in titanium generally occurs only under the following conditions:
Titanium alloys show exceptional immunity to all forms of microbiologically influenced corrosion. Although titanium alloys are non-toxic to marine organisms, biofouling can occur in seawater. This can be mitigated by chlorination or increasing water velocity through heat exchangers.
Unlike many materials, titanium does not experience reduced fatigue performance in seawater. Fatigue endurance limits and fatigue *** growth rates remain consistent whether tested in air or seawater.
Titanium ranks near the noble end of the galvanic series, close to stainless steels, and typically acts as the cathode when paired with other metals. This protects titanium from galvanic corrosion while potentially accelerating the corrosion of the coupled metal. Pairing titanium with more noble metals, like graphite, further enhances its passivity.
Grade 2 Titanium Rod maintains its fatigue properties in seawater, showing no degradation. Fatigue endurance limits and fatigue *** growth rates are consistent whether tested in air or seawater.
CP2 Grade Titanium Rod is highly weldable, provided the necessary precautions are observed. Given titanium's reactivity, an inert gas shield must cover both the OD and ID of the rod. Additionally, the material must be free of grease or oil contamination.
Grade 2 Titanium Rod is often welded using manual or automatic TIG welding, with or without filler wire. A low heat input is recommended to minimize the heat-affected zone. Typically, Titanium Rod is not post-weld heat treated.
