It contains a substantial amount of chromium (at least 11.5%), making it resistant to corrosion. Its optimal corrosion resistance is achieved when tempered and polished post-hardening. Known as a general-purpose grade, 410 Stainless Steel Pipe is typically hardened yet remains machinable, ideal for applications needing moderate heat, corrosion resistance, and significant strength. The high hardness characteristic of martensitic stainless steels often necessitates a final heat treatment, as poor weldability must be considered during fabrication. Though offering lower corrosion resistance compared to austenitic stainless steels, 410 maintains good corrosion resistance while being ductile and forgeable. However, it loses ductility below freezing temperatures and strength above freezing due to over-tempering, which limits its operational temperature range. Widely used for its high strength and hardness, 410 Stainless Steel Pipe is magnetic in all conditions and not recommended for severe corrosion environments.

- Corrosion Resistance
410 is resistant to dry air, fresh water, mild bases, acids, foods, steam, and hot gases, showcasing its versatile corrosion resistance.
For maximum heat and corrosion resistance, 410 must be hardened. Optimal performance is achieved when the surface is smooth.
Heat Resistance
Exhibiting good resistance to scaling up to approximately 650°C, 410 is generally not recommended for use between 400°C and 580°C, as mechanical properties are reduced.
Heat Treatment
Fully anneal at 815-900°C, followed by slow furnace cooling to 600°C, then air cooling.
Process anneal at 650-760°C, followed by air cooling.
Welding
Easily welded by all standard methods. Preheating to 150-260°C and post-weld annealing are required to minimize the risk of cracking.
