AMS 4928 - Bars, Forgings, and Forging Stock (Annealed)
AMS 4965 - Bars, Forgings (Solution treated and aged)
AMS 4967 - Bars, Forgings (Annealed, Heat Treatable)
Rapid quenching of small sections in the solution treated and aged condition achieves optimal properties. Larger sections or delayed quenching may result in suboptimal properties.
Typical hardness ranges from Rockwell C 30-34 in the annealed condition to Rockwell C 35-39 in the solution and aged condition.
Machining the Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy bar is best performed using techniques akin to those for austenitic stainless steel. This demands slow machining speeds, elevated feed rates, rigid tooling, and copious amounts of non-chlorinated cutting fluids to ensure optimal performance.
The Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy rod offers excellent weldability when annealed or in a solution and partially aged condition. Post-weld heat treatment completes the aging process. However, precautions against contamination by oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen are essential. Welding can be done in an inert gas-filled chamber or with inert gas shielding for the molten metal and adjacent heated zones, supported by a tail shield. Spot, seam, and flash welding can also be conducted without a protective atmosphere.
Care must be taken with Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 titanium alloy rod to prevent contamination by hydrogen during improper pickling and by oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon during forging, heat treating, brazing, etc. Such contamination may cause a loss of ductility, negatively impacting its notch sensitivity and forming properties.
We tailor the production of bars to meet your specific requirements.
Our bars boast excellent surface finish and straightness, perfect roundness, and the tightest diameter tolerances (up to h5 per ISO 286-2). Available in straightened, ground, and polished conditions.

Grade 2 titanium offers superb resistance across various media. Table 1 showcases CP titanium's corrosion rates, highlighting its efficacy in numerous environments, such as:
CP titanium excels in resisting crevice corrosion in salt solutions, outperforming stainless steels. It remains unaffected by crevice corrosion at temperatures below 80 °C (176°F), irrespective of pH, even in highly chlorinated conditions.
Grade 2 titanium showcases top-tier resistance to stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in hot chloride solutions and remains impervious to SCC in seawater.
Titanium demonstrates exceptional resistance to erosion in flowing environments.
Seawater with velocities up to 130 ft/sec (40 m/sec) shows negligible effect on our premium titanium material. Even the presence of abrasive particles such as sand has only a minimal impact on corrosion, ensuring long-lasting durability.
There is no significant absorption of hydrogen into titanium exposed to seawater, even at higher temperatures. Typically, hydrogen absorption only occurs when three specific conditions are met:
Titanium alloys exhibit unique immunity to microbiologically influenced corrosion. Although biofouling can occur in seawater due to titanium's non-toxic nature towards marine organisms, it can be minimized by chlorination or increasing water velocity through heat exchangers.
Unlike many other materials, titanium does not show a decrease in fatigue performance when exposed to seawater. Both fatigue endurance limits and fatigue *** growth rates remain consistent whether tested in air or seawater, ensuring reliable performance.
In the galvanic series, titanium is positioned towards the noble end near stainless steels. When coupled with other metals, titanium typically acts as the cathode and remains unaffected by galvanic corrosion, although it can accelerate corrosion in the other metal. Coupling with more noble metals like graphite enhances titanium's passivity.
Grade 2 Titanium Rod uniquely maintains its fatigue properties even in the presence of seawater. Fatigue endurance limits and *** growth rates are consistent whether tested in air or seawater, making it a reliable option for demanding environments.
CP2 Grade Titanium Rod is highly weldable with the correct precautions. Due to titanium's reactivity, an inert gas shield must be placed on both the OD and ID of the rod, and the material must be free from grease or oil contamination.
Grade 2 Titanium Rod is typically welded using either manual or automatic TIG welding, with or without filler wire. To minimize the size of the heat-affected zone, low heat input should be used. Post-weld heat treatment is generally not required for Titanium Rod.
