CORROSION RESISTANCE
General Corrosion
- The high chromium and molybdenum content of Duplex 2507 make it extremely resistant to uniform corrosion caused by organic acids such as formic and acetic acid.
- It provides excellent resistance to inorganic acids, especially those containing chlorides.
- Suitable for use in dilute hydrochloric acid environments.
- Pitting is not a concern below the borderline in this figure, though crevices should be avoided.
Intergranular Corrosion
- The low carbon content significantly reduces the risk of carbide precipitation at grain boundaries during heat treatment.
- Highly resistant to carbide-related intergranular corrosion.
Stress Corrosion Cracking
- The duplex structure of the 2507 stainless steel plate offers unparalleled resistance to chloride stress corrosion cracking (SCC), ensuring longevity and reliability.

Pitting Corrosion
- Utilize various testing methods to accurately determine the pitting resistance of steels in chloride-containing solutions, ensuring the highest quality and durability.
Crevice Corrosion
- The 2507 stainless steel plate possesses exceptional resistance to crevice corrosion, maintaining its integrity under challenging conditions.
Hot Forming
For optimal results, hot work the 2507 stainless steel between 1875°F and 2250°F, followed by a solution anneal at a minimum of 1925°F, and a rapid air or water quench.
Cold Forming
Cold working 2507 stainless steel is seamlessly compatible with most standard stainless steel forming processes. Due to its higher yield strength and lower ductility compared to austenitic steels, fabricators may require increased forming forces, larger bending radii, and allowances for springback. Processes like deep drawing and stretch forming are more challenging with 2507. For deformation exceeding 10%, a solution anneal and quench is recommended for optimal results.
Heat Treatment
Following hot or cold forming, 2507 should be solution annealed at a minimum of 1925°F and rapidly quenched with air or water. To ensure superior corrosion resistance, heat-treated products should undergo pickling and rinsing.
Welding
The 2507 stainless steel plate exhibits exceptional weldability, allowing it to be joined to itself or other materials using techniques such as SMAW, GTAW, PAW, FCW, or SAW. For optimal duplex weld structure, utilize 2507/P100 filler metal when welding.
