GENERAL PROPERTIES
317L Stainless Steel Pipe is a molybdenum-enhanced, low-carbon austenitic stainless steel. With increased levels of chromium, nickel, and molybdenum, it offers superior corrosion and chemical resistance against sulfite, acetic, formic, citric, and tartaric acids. Its low carbon content ensures resistance to sensitization during welding, paired with elevated creep, rupture stress, and tensile strength at high temperatures. While nonmagnetic in the annealed state, it may exhibit slight magnetism post-welding.
APPLICATIONS
317L seamless pipe is extensively utilized in handling sulfur, pulp liquors, acid dyes, acetylation, nitration mixtures, bleaching solutions, heavy coal, petroleum, and numerous chemical compounds. Additional applications of the 317L alloy include:
- Paper and pulp processing equipment
- Chemical and petrochemical processing apparatus
- Condensers in fossil and nuclear power generation plants
- Food processing machinery
- Textile industry equipment
STANDARDS - ALLOY 317L
- ASTM/ASME: UNS N08020
- EURONORM: FeMi35Cr20Cu4Mo2
- DIN: 2.4660
CORROSION RESISTANCE
- Exhibits outstanding corrosion resistance in harsh environments, especially against a variety of chemicals, particularly in acidic chloride conditions.
- Superior resistance in applications where minimal contamination is crucial.
- The low carbon content ensures excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion.
- Effectively resists pitting from phosphorus acids, chlorides, bromides, and iodides.
HEAT RESISTANCE
- All chromium-nickel-molybdenum steels showcase exceptional resistance to oxidation.
- Maintains a low rate of scaling in ordinary atmospheres at temperatures up to 1600-1650°F (871-899°C).
WELDING CHARACTERISTICS
- Successful with all common fusion and resistance methods, except for oxyacetylene welding.
- For welding Type 317L steel, use AWS E317L/ER317L filler metal, austenitic low-carbon filler metals with higher molybdenum content, or a nickel-base filler metal with sufficient chromium and molybdenum to surpass the corrosion resistance of Type 317L.
MACHINABILITY
- Using low speeds and constant feeds will reduce the alloy's tendency to work harden.
- Tougher than 304 stainless steel, featuring a long, stringy chip-chip breakers are recommended.
Testing
- We provide an array of mechanical tests to ensure and validate our products. These tests include expansion tests, hardness tests, micro and macro tests, and chemical tests, all aimed at delivering high satisfaction to our esteemed customers.
