Type 321 stainless steel is an advanced austenitic steel that shares many of the desirable properties of Type 304, yet boasts increased titanium and carbon content. This enhancement equips Type 321 with superior corrosion and oxidation resistance, as well as remarkable toughness, even at cryogenic temperatures. With its high resistance to oxidation and corrosion, Type 321 stands out in demanding environments. The addition of titanium provides several notable advantages: it prevents harmful carbide precipitation in the heat-affected zone (HAZ) of the weld, offers partial protection against intergranular corrosion, and reduces embrittlement in high-risk welding areas. Type 321H stainless steel excels in applications where components are heated to carbide precipitation temperatures (800°F-1500°F) and exposed to corrosive atmospheres. While similar to 304 stainless steel, Type 321 contains more nickel and is stabilized with titanium, which preferentially interacts with carbon to prevent the formation of chromium carbides at the grain boundaries. This ensures corrosion resistance by minimizing chromium consumption near grain borders during critical temperature exposure. Type 321 stainless steel hardens efficiently with cold working, is easily weldable, and rarely requires post-weld annealing, maintaining its outstanding performance in various corrosive conditions.
Our state-of-the-art forming capabilities include advanced extrusion and cold working technologies for tube and pipe production. We boast one of the world's largest pilger mills and utilize unique hydroforming processes for manufacturing high-quality fittings.
