Titanium Welded Pipes
DaXun expertly manufactures and supplies high-quality titanium pipes with diameters starting from 12.7mm to 38.1mm (0.47 in to 1.5 in), wall thicknesses from 0.4mm to 1.65mm (0.016 in to 0.065 in), and lengths up to 25000mm. Our titanium welded pipes, ideal for engineering and chemical industries, are crafted from flat rolled raw material (kelp) using automatic tungsten inert gas (argon) welding on electric pipe welders and are heat-treated on the mill line. Each pipe undergoes stringent mechanical testing, precise geometrical measurements, 100% ultrasonic and eddy current testing, as well as pneumatic or hydrostatic testing. INTRODUCTION

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 Alloy Tube (UNS R56400) stands as the epitome of titanium alloys. Renowned for its duplex alpha+beta structure, this high-performance alloy integrates aluminium as an alpha stabilizer and vanadium as a beta stabilizer. Such a configuration allows it to remain robust even at cryogenic temperatures, reaching up to 800°F (427°C). Whether undergoing annealing, solution treatment, or aging, the ATI Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy shines in various demanding applications. These include compressor blades, discs, and rings for jet engines, critical fuselage and space capsule components, pressure containers, *** cases, helicopter rotor hubs, fasteners, and essential forgings that demand a superior strength-to-weight ratio.
  • This exceptional alloy undergoes its initial melting through methods such as vacuum arc (VAR), electron beam (EB), or plasma arc hearth melting (PAM). The remelting process typically involves one or two steps under vacuum arc conditions.

HEAT TREATMENT

  • Annealing at 1,700-1,900°F (927 - 1,038°C) is essential when high hardness, tensile, and fatigue strength are required.
  • DAXUN 6-4™, Grade 5 Alloy offers versatile heat treatment options.
  • 1. Anneal: 1,275 - 1,400°F (691 - 760°C), ½ to 2 hours, air or furnace cool.
  • 2. Stress Relief Anneal: 1,000 - 1,200°F (538 - 649°C), 1 to 8 hours, air or furnace cool.
  • 3. Solution Heat Treatment: 1,675 - 1,750°F (913 - 954°C), 1 hour, water quench.
  • 4. Aging Treatment: 975 - 1,025°F (524 - 552°C), 4 to 8 hours, air cool.
  • The finest properties are achieved in the solution treated and aged condition, particularly when small cross sections are rapidly quenched.
    However, larger section sizes or a quench delay may result in properties that fall short of the optimum values.

HARDNESS

In the annealed condition, typical hardness ranges from Rockwell C 30-34, while in the solution and aged condition, it elevates to Rockwell C 35-39.

FORGEABILITY/ FORMABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy tubes are forged at 1,750°F (954°C), with the final forging temperature at 1,450°F (788°C). For the best results, a reduction of at least 35% is advised.
  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy, renowned for its high strength, poses significant challenges for forming at room temperature. Even in its annealed state, intense forming operations such as bending or stretching require elevated temperatures up to 1,200°F (649°C) to maintain its mechanical properties. For precise hot sizing or forming, creep forming is employed within the temperature range of 1,000 to 1,200°F (538 to 649°C).

MACHINABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy can be machined effectively by leveraging techniques commonly used for austenitic stainless steels, including slow speeds and heavy feeds.
    Ensure the use of rigid tooling and substantial volumes of non-chlorinated cutting fluid to achieve optimal results.

WELDABILITY

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Grade 5 Alloy Titanium Tube offers excellent weldability in both annealed and solution-treated, partially aged conditions. Aging is performed during post-weld heat treatment.
  • During welding, it is crucial to prevent contamination by oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen. Fusion welding should be executed in an inert gas-filled chamber or with an inert gas shield protecting the molten metal and adjacent hot zone. Spot welding, seam welding, and flash welding can be successfully conducted without requiring a protective environment.

SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS

  • DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy is susceptible to hydrogen contamination from improper pickling and can absorb oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon during processes like forging, heat treatment, and brazing. Such contamination may decrease ductility, affecting notch sensitivity and forming capabilities.
