Grade 2 Titanium Tube (UNS R50400 / Werkstoff WS 3.7034)

Widely recognized for its exceptional performance, this Grade 2 Titanium Tube is a favorite in industrial applications. It boasts a harmonious blend of moderate strength and excellent ductility. Its superior corrosion resistance thrives in both highly oxidizing and mildly reducing environments, including those with chlorides. This makes it indispensable in industries such as chemical processing, offshore operations, and aircraft manufacturing, where strength and formability are paramount. Furthermore, it's extensively used in heat exchangers, hypochlorite systems, fire water systems, ballast water systems, industrial components, aerospace parts, CPI equipment, and tubing.

Fabrication

Titanium Grade 2 is highly receptive to cold forming using standard procedures. Its machinability is commendable, provided that sharp tools are maintained and ample coolant is applied. Similar to machining austenitic stainless steels, machining should involve deep and continuous cuts with controlled feeds and speeds.

Stock Availability

Weight Reduction

With a low density and a remarkable strength-to-weight ratio, CP 2 grade titanium tubes are perfect for applications that demand weight reduction without compromising overall strength. These tubes are cold formable, exhibit good ductility, and are weldable using standard TIG and MIG methods, though inert gas shielding is essential to prevent weld zone embrittlement.

Crystal Structure

At ambient temperature, ASTM B338 Grade 2 titanium tube features an alpha (hexagonal close-packed) crystal structure, akin to commercially pure titanium grades 1 and 3. Upon heating to approximately 885°C (1625°F), it undergoes a transformation to a beta (body-centered cubic) structure. This transformation temperature can vary depending on the impurities or alloying elements present. Alloy additions also subdivide the equilibrium transformation temperature into distinct alpha and beta zones. Below the alpha transformation zone, the alloy is entirely alpha, whereas above the beta transformation zone, it is entirely beta. Between these temperatures, both forms coexist. Typical transition temperatures for Grade 2 titanium are 890°C (1635°F) for alpha and 913°C (1675°F) for beta.

The comprehensive production steps include: titanium plate uncoiling, shearing, butt welding, cleaning, pipe forming, TIG welding, eddy current testing, pre-sizing, annealing, precision reducing and sizing, straightening, eddy current testing, caliper marking, cutting, ultrasonic testing, hydrostatic testing, final inspection, and packaging. Post forming and welding, the welded pipes undergo at least one stress relief heat treatment to ensure integrity. Daxun omits the use of filler materials during welding.

Grade 2 Titanium Tube (UNS R50400 / Werkstoff WS 3.7034)

Our Titanium Tube Grade 2 ASTM B338 Seamless Pipe is the go-to choice for industrial applications, combining moderate strength with excellent ductility. It stands out for its top-tier corrosion resistance, performing exceptionally well in both highly oxidizing and slightly reducing environments, including chloride exposure. This makes it invaluable in the chemical and offshore industries, as well as in aircraft manufacturing where robust strength and formability are critical. Additionally, it excels in heat exchangers, hypochlorite systems, fire water systems, ballast water systems, industrial and aerospace components, CPI equipment, and various piping applications.

Fabrication

Titanium Grade 2 exhibits excellent cold-forming characteristics using standard methods, and can be machined with ease. However, maintaining sharp tools and utilizing liberal amounts of coolant are imperative. Similar to machining austenitic stainless steels, ensure cuts are deep and continuous with slow feed rates and speeds for optimal results.

Weight Reduction

CP 2 grade titanium tubes are engineered for applications where weight reduction is essential without compromising strength. Their low density and high strength-to-weight ratio make them ideal. These tubes are cold-formable, exhibit good ductility, and can be welded using conventional TIG and MIG processes, albeit with inert gas shielding to prevent weld zone embrittlement.

Crystal Structure

At room temperature, ASTM B338 Grade 2 titanium tubes exhibit an alpha (hexagonal close-packed) crystal structure, similar to commercially pure titanium grades 1 and 3. Upon reaching approximately 885°C (1625°F), they transform to a beta (body-centered cubic) structure. This transformation temperature can vary with the type and quantity of impurities or alloying elements. Alloying additions also split the equilibrium transformation into two temperature zones: the alpha transformation zone (below which the material is all alpha) and the beta transformation zone (above which the material is all beta). Between these zones, a mixture of alpha and beta forms exists. Typical alpha and beta transformation temperatures for Grade 2 titanium are 890°C (1635°F) and 913°C (1675°F), respectively.

Grade 2 Titanium Seamless Pipe Manufacturing Process

It is crucial to safeguard the DAXUN Ti-6Al-4V Titanium Tube, Grade 5 Titanium Tube from hydrogen contamination caused by improper pickling and the absorption of oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon during processes like forging, heat treating, and brazing. Such contamination can detrimentally affect ductility, notch sensitivity, and formability, undermining the tube's stellar performance.
