  • The production of titanium ingots involves multiple stages, including heat treatment, machining, immersion ultrasonic testing, mechanical properties testing, and both macroscopic and microscopic structural inspections. The production process flows as follows: hot-rolled titanium bars, known for high efficiency and stable performance; forged titanium bars, valued for flexible sizing and enhanced performance through multi-fire forging; and cold-drawn titanium bars, typically small-sized, high-precision products. All these titanium bars are delivered with a bright surface finish.

HEAT TREATMENT GUIDELINES

  • For applications requiring high hardness, tensile strength, and fatigue strength, annealing can be performed at 1,700-1,900°F (927 - 1,038°C).
    DAXUN 6-4™ Grade 5 alloy offers versatile heat treatment options.
  • 1. Anneal: 1,275 -1,400°F; (691 - 760°C), ½ to 2 hours, air or furnace cool.
  • 2. Stress Relief Anneal: 1,000 -1,200°F; (538 - 649°C), 1 to 8 hours, air or furnace cool.
  • 3. Solution Heat Treat: 1,675 -1,750°F; (913 - 954°C), 1 hour, water quench.
  • 4. Aging: 975 -1,025°F; (524 - 552°C), 4 to 8 hours - air cool.

In the solution treated and aged condition, rapid quenching of small sections achieves optimum properties. For larger sections and/or delayed quenching, properties may be suboptimal.

EXCEPTIONAL HARDNESS RATINGS

The typical hardness for the annealed condition is Rockwell C 30-34, while the solution and aged condition is around Rockwell C 35-39.

FORGEABILITY AND FORMABILITY EXCELLENCE

  • Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy bar is forged at 1,750°F; (954°C) with a final forging temperature of 1,450°F; (788°C). A minimum reduction of 35% is recommended to achieve optimum properties.
  • The Ti-6Al-4V, Grade 5 alloy bar presents challenges in forming at room temperature, even when annealed. Weldability

Fusion welding should occur in an inert gas-filled chamber or utilize inert gas for welding the molten metal and nearby heated zones, using a tail shield. Spot, seam, and flash welding can also be performed without a protective atmosphere.

Special Considerations
